Part 3
THE CAP COLLABORATIVE IS A UNIQUE EDUCATIONAL CROSS TRAINING PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR A DIVERSE GROUP OF SENIOR EXECUTIVES FROM BOTH THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS TO LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER AND FROM EXCEPTIONAL GUEST FACULTY, TO BETTER UNDERSTAND WHAT MOTIVATES LEADERS IN BUSINESS AND GOVERNMENT, TO EXPLORE WHERE IT MAKES SENSE TO COLLABORATE IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST, AND TO FORM THE NEXT GENERATION OF OPEN-MINDED, ENGAGED AND NETWORKED CIVIC LEADERS. THE CAPCOLLABORATIVE BUILDS A NETWORK OF GOVERNMENT AND CORPORATE OFFICIALS WITH GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF THE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF COLLABORATION. THE CAP COLLABORATIVE THEREAFTER CREATES AN ALUMNI NETWORK WITH REGULAR GATHERINGS THAT ALLOW THE RELATIONSHIPS AND NETWORKING TO GROW OVER THE YEARS, EMBEDDING PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS, DIVERSITY AND TRUST INTO THE FABRIC OF POLICY-MAKING IN THE COMMONWEALTH. CAP FELLOWS PROGRAM BEGAN IN 2019 AS AN INNOVATIVE, TEN-WEEK SUMMER PROGRAM FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS IN PUBLIC POLICY AT UMASS, NORTHEASTERN AND SUFFOLK UNIVERSITIES. WITH A FOCUS ON DIVERSITY, EACH SUMMER CAP ADMITS 20 GRAD STUDENTS IN LAW OR PUBLIC POLICY, PAYS EACH A STIPEND OF 6K, AND PLACES CAP FELLOWS IN PUBLIC OR PRIVATE SUMMER INTERNSHIPS. ONCE A WEEK THEY RETURN FOR ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS WITH PRACTITIONERS: REPORTERS, EDITORS, POLLSTERS, ADVOCATES, CORPORATE AND GOVERNMENT LEADERS. UNIQUELY, RATHER THAN DEEP-DIVES ON PUBLIC POLICY, CAP FELLOWS FOCUS ON STRATEGY AND TACTICS. FELLOWS SPEND 4 DAYS A WEEK AT THEIR INDIVIDUAL INTERNSHIPS, AND 1 DAY PER WEEK AS GROUP; ENGAGING IN ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS WITH PROMINENT LEADERS AND PRACTITIONERS INVOLVED IN PUBLIC POLICY AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT.
