IN 2021 BROOKLYN BOOK BODEGA PARTNERED WITH 190 ORGANIZATIONS AND HOSTED 38 EVENTS TO DISTRIBUTE 80,072 BOOKS TO 20,767 FAMILIES, CHILDREN, AND INDIVIDUALS THROUGHOUT NEW YORK CITY. VISITORS AND VOLUNTEERS CAME FROM DIVERSE SOCIO-ECONOMIC, RACIAL, AND CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS AND ALL FIVE BOROUGHS AND BEYOND FOSTERING A LOVE OF READING, INTENTIONAL BOOK CULTURE, AND BOOK OWNERSHIP. BROOKLYN BOOK BODEGA PARTNERS WITH COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS TO INTENTIONALLY HOST BOOK GIVEAWAYS IN BOOK DESERTS AREAS WITH FEW BOOKS FOR SALE OR BORROWING IN ORDER TO PROMOTE LITERACY, SPARK A LOVE OF READING, AND INCREASE BOOK OWNERSHIP, BOOK CHOICE, AND BOOK ACCESS. BROOKLYN BOOK BODEGA SERVES A CRITICAL NEED BY PROVIDING ACCESS TO A VARIETY OF HIGH INTEREST TEXTS AND PROMOTES A LOVE OF READING FOR FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS WHO MIGHT OTHERWISE HAVE LIMITED ACCESS TO HIGH QUALITY AND HIGH INTEREST BOOKS.
