Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

TO BE WELL FED FIGHTS CHILDHOOD HUNGER IN WASHINGTON DC. WE PARTNER WITH SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE GROCERY SUPPORT TO STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES IN-NEED. WE BELIEVE ALL CHILDREN DESERVE TO BE WELL FED.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

WE DELIVERED WEEKLY GROCERY SUPPORT TO 225 STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES AT 4 SCHOOLS AND 1 COMMUNITY CENTER (EAGLE ACADEMY PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL: 3400 WHEELER RD SE WASHINGTON DC 20032; SAVOY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: 2400 SHANNON PLACE SE WASHINGTON DC 20020; AND FRIENDSHIP ELEMENTARY PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL: 645 MILWAUKEE PLACE SE WASHINGTON DC 20032, CITY CENTER PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL: 510 WEBSTER ST NW WASHINGTON DC 20011). THE COMMUNITY CENTER WE SUPPORT IS THE FAR SOUTHEAST STRENGTHENING COLLABORATIVE CENTER AT 3501 MLK AVE SE DC 20032. THE STUDENT POPULATION AT THESE SCHOOLS IS 100% ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED. THESE SCHOOLS ARE LOCATED IN A FOOD DESERT AND SAFE PASSAGE TO A GROCERY STORE IS A CONCERN BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF THE VIOLENT CRIME IN THE CITY HAPPENS IN THESE NEIGHBORHOODS. FURTHERMORE, MANY OF THE STUDENTS WE SUPPORT ARE IN-TRANSITION AND LACK PERMANENT HOUSING. FOOD INSECURITY IS A DAILY STRUGGLE FOR THIS COMMUNITY AND TO BE WELL FED IS HELPING TO MAKE SURE ALL STUDENTS ARRIVE AT SCHOOL EVERY DAY, WELL-NOURISHED AND READY TO LEARN.

WE PURCHASED A FORD TRANSIT CONNECT VAN AND THE APPROPRIATE INSURANCE AND TAGS TO FACILITATE OUR ABILITY TO PURCHASE, TRANSPORT, AND DELIVER FOOD. THIS VAN HELPED US INCREASE OUR IMPACT AND HELP FEED MORE STUDENTS.
