THE HOME-DELIVERED NUTRITION SERVICES SECTION OF THE OLDER AMERICANS ACT AUTHORIZES MEALS AND RELATED NUTRITION SERVICES FOR OLDER INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE HOMEBOUND. THE CONGREGATE NUTRITION SERVICES SECTION OF THE OLDER AMERICANS ACT AUTHORIZES MEALS AND RELATED NUTRITION SERVICES IN CONGREGATE, OR GROUP, SETTINGS. IN ADDITION TO SERVING HEALTHY MEALS, THE PROGRAM PROMOTES SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT, OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES TO PRESENT INFORMATION ABOUT HEALTHY AGING AND SHOWCASES MEANINGFUL VOLUNTEER ROLES, ALL OF WHICH CONTRIBUTE TO AN OLDER INDIVIDUAL'S OVERALL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.

SUPPORTIVE SERVICES ARE KEY TO HELPING OLDER ADULTS MAINTAIN THEIR LONG-TERM INDEPENDENCE. WITH THE HELP OF ACCESS SERVICES (E.G., TRANSPORTATION, CASE MANAGEMENT, INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE), IN-HOME SERVICES (E.G., PERSONAL CARE, CHORE AND HOMEMAKER ASSISTANCE) AND COMMUNITY SERVICES (E.G., MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES, ADULT DAY CARE), INDIVIDUALS CAN PREVENT EARLY INSTITUTIONALIZATION AND INSTEAD CONTINUE LIVING AT HOME OR IN THEIR COMMUNITY OF CHOICE.
