AIPC WORKS TO PRESERVE AND IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT, ECONOMY AND QUALITY OF LIFE ON AQUIDNECK ISLAND TO ENSURE THAT THE ISLAND REMAINS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE, WORK, PLAY AND THRIVE.

THE PURPOSE OF THE AQUIDNECK ISLAND PLANNING COMMISSION IS TO WORK WITH ALL THREE COMMUNITIES ON AQUIDNECK ISLAND AND NAVAL STATION NEWPORT AS WELL AS CITIZENS, BUSINESSES AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS TO PRESERVE AND IMPROVE AQUIDNECK ISLAND'S ENVIRONMENT, ECONOMY AND QUALITY OF LIFE. DURING FY 2021, AIPC CONTINUED TO EXECUTE ON ITS MULTI YEAR ISLAND WATERS PROJECTS. THIS INCLUDED DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF WET VEGETATED TREATMENT SYSTEMS (WVTS) IN ORDER TO IMPROVE STORMWATER MANAGEMENT WITHIN THE ISLAND'S WATERSHEDS AND NEIGHBORING DEVELOPMENTS. THE COMPLETION OF THESE PROJECTS WILL ALSO RESULT IN REDUCED WATER POLLUTION RUNOFF INTO AQUIDNECK ISLAND RESERVIORS AND NARRAGANSETT BAY, AND IMPROVE OPEN SPACE MANAGEMENT AND ACCESSIBILITY.
AIPC PARTNERED WITH CONSULTANTS CAUSE & EFFECT TO ESTABLISH JOINT MUNICIPAL POST COVID19 PANDEMIC PRIORITIES AMONG THE ISLAND MUNICIPALITIES AND NAVAL STATION NEWPORT. SENIOR MUNICIPAL ADMINISTRATORS AND PLANNERS IDENTIFIED TOP PRIORITIES AS HOUSING, TRANSPORTATION, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WITH EMPHASIS ON UPDATING THE WEST SIDE MASTER PLAN, BROADBAND INFRASTRUCTURE, AND IDENTIFYING NEW WATER QUALITY PROJECTS AND FUNDING SOURCES ONCE THE REMAINING ISLAND WATERS PROJECTS ARE COMPLETED IN 2022.
