VINCENT DE PAUL AT SAINT MATTHIAS CHURCH: A NETWORK OF FRIENDS, INSPIRED BY GOSPEL VALUES, GROWING IN HOLINESS AND BUILDING A MORE JUST WORLD THROUGH PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH AND SERVICE TO PEOPLE IN NEED. INSPIRED BY GOSPEL VALUES, THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL, A CATHOLIC LAY ORGANIZATION, LEADS WOMEN AND MEN TO JOIN TOGETHER TO GROW SPIRITUALLY BY OFFERING PERSON-TO-PERSON SERVICE TO THOSE WHO ARE NEEDY AND SUFFERING IN THE TRADITION OF ITS FOUNDER, BLESSED FRDRIC OZANAM, AND PATRON, ST. IN THE UNITED STATES, THE NEARLY 100,000 TRAINED MEMBERS OF THE SOCIETY OF ST VINCENT DE PAUL PROVIDED 12.5 MILLION HOURS OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE IN 2018, HELPING MORE THAN 5.4 MILLION PEOPLE THROUGH VISITS TO HOMES, PRISONS AND HOSPITALS AT A VALUE OF MORE THAN 1.1 BILLION DOLLARS. OUR SAINT MATTHIAS CONFERENCE BEGAN IN 1999 TO REACH OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY OF FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY.IN THE PAST YEAR WE HAVE INTERVIEWED OVER 100 CLIENTS RESULTING IN ASSISTANCE OF MORE THAN 340 ADULTS AND CHILDREN, TYPICALLY BY HELPING THEM TO SECURE OR KEEP HOUSING, AND TO KEEP THEIR UTILITIES ON. WE ALSO HAVE ADVISED THEM ON OTHER SOURCES OF HELP THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC. OUR ABILITY TO ASSIST WAS ALL MADE POSSIBLE BY THE SUPPORT OF GENEROUS BENEFACTORS. THE GOAL OF THE HOMELESSNESS PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, COUNSELING, AND OTHER SERVICES TO PREVENT FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS FROM BEING EVICTED, LOSING THEIR HOMES, OR BECOMING HOMELESS. THE FUNDS ARE USED TO HELP THOSE WHO ARE CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS FIND BOTH SHORT TERM AND PERMANENT LONG TERM HOUSING OR APARTMENTS AND STAY IN THE NEW HOUSING UNITS. THE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: PAYMENTS FOR SECURITY DEPOSITS. RENTAL ASSISTANCE THAT CAN BE SHORT-TERM (UP TO 3 MONTHS) OR LONG TERM (UP TO 18 MONTHS). ASSISTANCE IN PAYING FOR UTILITY DEPOSITS AND HELP FOR PAYING UTILITY BILLS. MOVING COST ASSISTANCE TO MOVE INTO A NEW, MORE AFFORDABLE HOME. VOUCHERS FOR MOTELS OR HOTELS. COUNSELING AND CASE MANAGEMENT. OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT
