OUR GOAL IS TO PRODUCE AN EFFECTIVE TRAINING MODEL AND MATERNITY WORKFOCE THAT ELIMINATES NEGATIVE BIRTH OUTCOME DISPARITIES IN WOMEN

HEALING HANDS COMMUNITY DOULA PROJECT IS THE TRAINING PARTNER FOR THE BOLDLY BLUE PROJECT, A COLLABORATION BETWEEN HUSTON TILLOTSON UNIVERSITY (AN HBCU) AND BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF TEXAS. THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF BIPOC BIRTH WORKERS AVAILABLE TO SUPPORT BIPOC CHILDBEARING FAMILIES IN TEXAS. WE ARE WRAPPING UP THE FIRST CPHORT OF TRAINEES AND BCBS OF TEXAS HAS ALREADY COMMITTED 2 MORE YEARS OF FUNDING. IN TOTAL, THE PLAN IS TO TRAIN AND PUT ON THE GROUND 45 BIRTH WORKERS OF COLOR TO SERVE CHILDBEARING FAMILIES IN TEXAS TO HELP ELIMINATE BIRTH OUTCOME DISPARITIES AND LOWER MATERNAL AND INFANT MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY. THIS PROJECT ENABLED US TO HIRE A FULL TIME PCHW.


TRAINING 8 PCHW'S THIS YEAR THROUGH THE COPIC GRANT. WILL SERVE UP TO 80 FAMILIES.


MS FOUNDATION BIRTH JUSTICE GRANT. WE RECEIVED $50,000 TO CARRY OUT CASE MANAGEMENT FOR CLIENTS; NEEDS ANALYSIS, RESOURCE INDENTIFICATION, REFERRALS AND ASSISTANCE GETTING RESOURCES. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STRENGTHEN OUR COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS AND FLESH OUT WHAT WAS NEEDED TO DEVELOP THE PCHW CURRICULUM. THIS PROGRAM ALSO ALLOWED US TO HIRE A FULL TIME PCHW.
