PAUSE4PAWS, INC. IS A TULSA NONPROFIT THAT ARRANGES SHORT TERM FOSTER CARE FOR PETS WHILE THEIR OWNERS, WHO ARE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS, MENTAL ILLNESS OR ADDICTION, RECEIVE URGENT MEDICAL, MENTAL HEALTH, OR SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT. PET OWNERSHIP HAS OFTEN BEEN A BARRIER FOR INDIVIDUALS TO ACCEPT AVAILABLE MEDICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES BECAUSE THESE INDIVIDUALS DO NOT WANT TO ABANDON THEIR PETS. OUR FOSTER SERVICES ARE LIMITED TO PET OWNERS WHO HAVE BEEN REFERRED BY A SOCIAL SERVICES OR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER DEDICATED TO HELPING INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS, MENTAL ILLNESS OR ADDICTION. THROUGH OUR SERVICES INDIVIDUALS, WHO MIGHT NOT OTHERWISE RECEIVE TREATMENT, ARE GIVEN A CHANCE AT A HEALTHIER, SAFER, AND MORE PRODUCTIVE LIFE. IN 2021, WE PROVIDED PET FOSTER CARE FOR 45 INDIVIDUALS. WE HAD A TOTAL OF 56 INTAKES AS WE ASSISTED SOME INDIVIDUALS MORE THAN ONCE. THESE INDIVIDUALS WERE REFERRED TO US FROM OVER 20 DIFFERENT SOCIAL SERVICE AND HEALTH CARE ORGANIZATIONS. PAUSE4PAWS IS A CRUCIAL LINK IN THE CONTINUUM OF CARE FOR PET OWNERS WITH MENTAL ILLNESS, ADDICTION AND HOMELESSNESS. EVERY PET WHO PASSES THROUGH OUR PROGRAM IS VACCINATED AND SPAYED/NEUTERED, AS NEEDED, THROUGH ONE OF OUR MANY PARTNER VETERINARIANS. IN PROVIDING THIS SERVICE, WE ENSURE THAT PETS ARE RETURNED TO THEIR OWNERS IN COMPLIANCE WITH BOTH CITY ORDINANCES AND BEST PRACTICES FOR PET HEALTHCARE. DURING 2021, WE FOSTERED 84 DIFFERENT PETS, PROVIDING VACCINATIONS AND BASIC VETERINARY CARE, INCLUDING SPAY/NEUTER IF NEEDED. WE ALSO PROVIDED FLEA/TICK TREATMENT AND BASIC GROOMING, PLUS COLLARS, LEASHES, QUALITY PET FOOD, AND OTHER NEEDED SUPPLIES WHEN THEY ARE RETURNED TO THEIR OWNER.
