LA COSECHA'S MISSION IS TO ENSURE THAT LOW INCOME SOUTH VALLEY AND INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT FAMILIES HAVE ADEQUATE AND SUSTAINABLE ACCESS TO HEALTHY AND AFFORDABLE LOCALLY GROWN FOOD AND NUTRITION EDUCATION STRENGTHENING THE LOCAL ECONOMY BY PROVIDING A STABLE MARKET FOR LOCAL FARMERS.

LA COSECHA CSA PROGRAM PROVIDES ACCESS TO ORGANIC LOCAL PRODUCE TO 308 WEEKLY MEMBERS. IT PROVIDES A STABLE MARKET FOR LOCAL GROWERS AND PROVIDES THE COMMUNITY NUTRITION EDUCATION THROUGH A WEEKLY NEWSLETTER HIGHLIGHTING THE FARMERS AND RECIPES FOR HEALTHIER COOKING AND USE OF PRODUCE DISTRIBUTED THAT WEEK.


THE COOKING CLASS PROGRAM PROVIDES 10 COOKING CLASSES PER YEAR WITH PARTNERS FIRST CHOICE COMMUNITY HEALTH CARE AND PRESBYTERIAN HEALTHCARE SERVICES. DURING 2021 THESE CLASSES HAD TO TAKE PLACE MOSTLY ONLINE DUE TO COVID SHUTDOWN. A HEALTHY DIET IS RELATED TO VARIOUS DIET PRESCRIPTIONS GIVEN PATIENTS AT THEIR HEALTHCARE FACILITIES IS DEMONSTRATED TO BOTH ADULTS AND CHILDREN. A PLANT-BASED DIET CURRICULUM IS STRESSED WITH EDUCATION ON THE NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF VARIOUS VEGETABLES AND HOW THEY CAN HELP TREAT DIET RELATED ILLNESSES.


THE COMMUNITY EVENTS PROGRAM INCLUDED LOCAL PRESENTATIONS THAT WERE CURTAILED THIS YEAR DUE TO COVID SHUTDOWN.
