OUR MISSION IS TO DEVELOP, INSPIRE AND SPREAD EFFECTIVE PRACTICES IN SHCOOLS TO ACHIEVE IMMEDIATE AND LASTING CHANGE IN STUDENT LEARNING. FASL DELIVERS INSERVICE EDUCATION PUBLIC OUTREACH AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH IN ALL FIELDS FELATED TO THE MISSION.

Part 3 - Line 4a

THESE FUNDS PROVIDE TEACHERS PROFESSIONAL LEARNING, TEAMS IMPROVING PRACTICE (TIP), TO 54 SCHOOLS IN ALABAMA. TIP IS A PROJECT WHICH DEVELOPS TEACHER EFFICACY BY MEASURING IMPACT OF CHANGES IN PRACTICE BASED ON THE SCIENCES OF LEARNING. USING THEORIES FROM BEHAVIORAL ECONOMICS, TEACHERS SHARE THEIR RESULTS IN THE SCHOOL TO BEGIN THE CHANGE IN THE BUILDING CULTURE TO CREATE COLLECTIVE EFFICACY, A HIGHLY EFFECTIVE MEANS FOR IMPROVING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. THE COST OF THIS TRAINING IS ROUGHLY LESS THAN 1/4TH OF THE COACHING MODEL USED BY THE STATE, LESS THEN 1/4TH OF THE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT MODEL ANALYZED BY THE RAND CORP. IN ALABAMA AND LESS THAN 2% OF THE CURRENT TURNAROUND INITIATIVE TO BE USED IN 15 OF THE LOWEST PERFORMING ALABAMA SCHOOLS. TIP HAS BEEN SHOWN IN A STUDY WITH OVER 4500 STUDENTS TO ACHIEVE SIMILAR OR BETTER RESULTS IN PARTICIPANT CLASSROOMS.


AASCD FUNDS WERE USED TO CREATE PROFESSIONAL LEARNING, "CREATING COMMUNITIES OF EXCELLENCE", FOR SCHOOL LEADERS ACROSS THE STATE OF ALABAMA. THIS SUSTAINED PROFESSIONAL LEARNING IS PART OF A THREE-YEAR PROJECT TO EXPAMINE AND APPLY THE WORK OF JOHN HATTIE (AUTHOR OF VISIBLE LEARNING) KATIE MILKMAN (AUTHOR OF HOW TO CHANGE) JANE MCGONIGAL (AUTHOR OF REALITY IS BROKEN) AND OTHERS IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN NORTH, CENTRAL AND SOUTH ALABAMA.
