EVERY YEAR, LIFE COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT ADOPTS THE RESIDENTS OF THE GREAT OAKS VILLAGE ORPHANAGE IN ORLANDO, FL. LCE PROVIDES THE MOSTLY TEENAGED RESIDENTS WITH GIFT CARDS FOR CLOTHING AND/OR INCIDENTALS AND A NEW PAIR OF SHOES, A CATERED DINNER ON CHRISTMAS EVE, AND EITHER CABIN OR CAMPUS GIFTS FOR THE KIDS. IN 2023, ALL EIGHTY RESIDENTS RECEIVED A $100 TARGET AND A $100 NIKE GIFT CARD. BEFORE LCE BECAME INVOLVED WITH THE FACILITY, CHRISTMAS EVE DINNER WAS VERY LOW-KEY, USUALLY SANDWICHES, AS THE STAFF WAS BUSY PREPARING FOR CHRISTMAS DINNER THE NEXT DAY. LCE ALLOWS THE KIDS TO SELECT THE RESTAURANT, THIS YEAR IT WAS CARIBBEAN, TO CATER DINNER FOR RESIDENTS AND STAFF THAT NIGHT. GREAT OAKS VILLAGE CONSISTS OF MULTIPLE CABINS ON CAMPUS AS WELL AS A MAIN AREA WITH A GIRL'S AND BOYS SIDE. THIS YEAR THE RESIDENTS, ALONG WITH INPUT FROM STAFF, REQUESTED TWO MASSAGE CHAIRS. THIS SELECTION WAS INSPIRED BY THE TRAUMA INFORMED CARE INITIATIVE OF THE CAMPUS. PROVIDING THESE STUDENTS A WAY TO RELA


MATER FILIUS PROVIDES PREGNANT WOMEN WHO HAVE NO SUPPORT A PLACE TO LIVE AND TEACHES THEM LIFE SKILLS (JOBS, HOME, FINANCES, ETC.) SO THAT ONCE THEY HAVE THE BABY, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO CARE FOR THEM EMOTIONALLY, PHYSICALLY, AND FINANCIALLY. THEIR TWO HOUSES HAVE REGULARLY BEEN AT CAPACITY, AND THEY WERE QUICKLY GOING THROUGH WASHERS AND DRYERS. THEY DECIDED THEY NEEDED TO MAKE THE MOVE TO HEAVY-DUTY LAUNDRY EQUIPMENT AND REQUESTED LIFE COMMUNITY ENRICHMENTS ASSISTANCE TO BUY A 30LB WASHER AND DRYER. LCE PURCHASED THE HEAVY-DUTY WASHER AND DRYER AND PAID FOR THE ELECTRICAL WORK TO ACCOMMODATE THE MACHINES.


EACH FALL, LIFE COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT PARTNERS WITH PLANO ELEMENTARY PRE-K AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE COATS AND SHOES TO NEEDY STUDENTS. DURING 2023, LCE PURCHASED 288 COATS AND 323 PAIRS OF SHOES FOR STUDENTS AT EIGHT AREA SCHOOLS.


LCE SPONSORED THE WEST SIDE NEIGHBORHOOD VITALITY AND BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAM IN SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV. $5,000 CASH WAS GIFTED TO FUND REPAIRS FOR THE ELDERLY (FIXING CRACKED AND BROKEN WINDOWS BEFORE THE WINTER COLD SETS IN IS A HIGH PRIORITY). ADDITIONALLY, LCE PURCHASED YARD EQUIPMENT FOR AREA YOUTH TO USE TO HELP THE ELDERLY IN NEED OF YARD CARE AVOID CODE VIOLATIONS. BOARD MEMBER DENISE HAMILTON WILL OVERSEE THIS PROGRAM THROUGH HER WV-BASED CHARITY. THUS FAR, THEY HAVE HELPED A 90-YEAR-OLD FORMER TEACHER WITH A BATHROOM REMODEL AND HELPED NEARLY A DOZEN ELDERLY/DISABLED RESIDENTS AVOID CODE VIOLATIONS BY CLEANING UP THEIR YARDS.
