THE MISSION OF SISTERS OF THE SKIES, INC IS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF AFRICAN AMERICAN FEMALE PILOTS (WHICH CURRENTLY MAKES UP LESS THAN 1% OF ALL US-BASED PROFESSIONAL PILOTS) THROUGH FLIGHT TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP, MENTORSHIP, AND OUTREACH.

IN 2021, SISTERS OF THE SKIES RECEIVED CORPORATE GRANTS TOTALING $314,287 AS WELL AS $51,065 IN INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTIONS AND $23,815 THROUGH THEIR ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP GALA. OF THE CORPORATE GRANTS, $285,000 WAS RECEIVED FROM JPMORGAN CHASE IN SUPPORT OF THE AVIATE PROGRAM, $14,287 FROM NETFLIX, $10,000 FROM BOEING, AND $5,000 FROM ALASKA AIRLINE. A TOTAL OF $75,000 IN INDIVIDUAL SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED IN 2021.


GIRLS ROCK WINGS (GROW)GROW IS AN ANNUAL ONE DAY AVIATION/STEM OUTREACH PROGRAM WHERE 100+ GIRLS OF COLOR BETWEEN THE AGES OF 10-18 YEARS OF AGE ARE EXPOSED TO THE FIELD OF AVIATION. THE GIRLS EXPERIENCE A DISCOVERY FLIGHT WITH A CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (CFI) WHO IS A WOMAN OF COLOR, TOUR AN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER, DEVELOP A FLIGHT PLAN AND FLY THAT FLIGHT PLAN IN A SIMULATOR, AND TOUR A STATIC DISPLAY. THE 2021 GROW INITIATIVE WAS SERVED BY 50 GRACIOUS VOLUNTEERS.PROGRAM DATES: 12/11/2021-12/12/2021
