THE HEALTH SCIENCES IMMERSION PROGRAM HSIP INTRODUCES STUDENTS TO THE ACADEMIC PROFESSIONAL AND RESEARCH COMPONENTS OF THE HEALTH SCIENCES FIELD. STUDENTS HEAR FROM SCIENCE PROFESSORS HEALTH PROFESSIONALS AND GRADUATE STUDENTS AS GUEST SPEAKERS THROUGHOUT THE 9 WEEK PROGRAM. HSIP STUDENTS ALSO UNDERTAKE A SERIES OF LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS AS WELL AS ACTIVITIES RELATED TO COLLEGE AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT. STUDENTS ALSO COMPLETE A BASIC SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE RESEARCH PROJECT. TO ENHANCE ACCESSIBILITY ALL LOW-INCOME STUDENTS WHOSE FAMILIES MEET THE FEDERAL FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH FAMILY INCOME REQUIREMENTS ARE ENROLLED INTO THE PROGRAM AT NO COST AND ATTEND THE PROGRAM FOR FREE. OTHER STUDENTS PAY A PROGRAM FEE LOWER THAN MANY COMPARABLE PROGRAMS WHICH ENABLES HSIP TO BE RUN IN A SUSTAINABLE AND HIGH QUALITY MANNER. DURING 2022 ALL 6 SESSIONS OF HSIP TOOK PLACE VIRTUALLY THROUGH THE ZOOM VIDEOCONFERENCE SOFTWARE. DURING 2022 HSIP SERVED OVER 220 STUDENTS. APPROXIMATELY 80 STUDENTS ATTENDED HSIP DURING THE TWO SESSIONS OF SPRING 2022 FOLLOWED BY 85 STUDENTS DURING THE TWO SESSIONS OF SUMMER 2022 AS WELL AS A FURTHER 65 STUDENTS DURING THE TWO SESSIONS OF FALL 2022.
