TAPROOT'S MISSION IS TO DESIGN AND BUILD HOLISTIC SYSTEMS FOR HEALTHY LOCAL FOOD, AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES WITH YOUTH AND FAMILIES. WE DESIGN SHARED URBAN GREENSPACES AND THE PROGRAMMING THAT UNLOCKS ITS POTENTIAL FOR FOOD SOVEREIGNTY, YOUTH EMPLOYMENT, ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE, COMMUNITY BUILDING, AND RACIAL EQUITY. WE OFFER SEASONAL YOUTH EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES, AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMUNITY GARDEN LEADERS IN ROCHESTER, K-12 YOUTH, UNIVERSITY STUDENTS, EDUCATORS WORKING WITH YOUTH, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. OUR VISION IS A FOR ROCHESTER TO BE FILLED WITH THRIVING NEIGHBORHOODS WHERE ALL PEOPLE HAVE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO CRITICAL RESOURCES.

SUMMER YOUTH WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: 5 YOUTH EMPLOYED FOR 15 WEEK EDUCATIONAL EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM THAT SUPPORTED THREE COMMUNITY GARDENS, EACH FOCUSED ON PRODUCING FREE, CULTURALLY RELEVANT, AND NUTRITIOUS PRODUCE IN UNDER-RESOURCED COMMUNITIES. INTERNS AND STAFF WORKED WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO REDESIGN EACH GARDEN, PLAN BUILD PROJECTS, AND RENOVATE EACH GARDEN TO EXPAND PRODUCTION CAPACITY, ACCESSIBILITY, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. MATERIAL ACCESS & EDUCATION SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITY GARDENS SEEKING TO EXPAND FOOD ACCESS: SUPPORT FOR MULTIPLE COMMUNITY GARDENS FOCUSED ON PRODUCING FREE CULTURALLY RELEVANT, AND NUTRITIOUS PRODUCE IN UNDER-RESOURCED COMMUNITIES.
