DESPITE CONSIDERABLE ONGOING CHALLENGES POSED BY THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC, SUSTAINABLE EMPOWERMENT LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION (SELF) HAS CONTINUED TO PERSEVERE WITH ITS COMMUNITY INITIATIVES. IN 2022 WE WERE ABLE TO CULTIVATE AND PLANT MORE THAN 34,000 TREES IN DOZENS OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES. ALONG WITH THIS CRITICAL REFORESTATION, WE PROVIDE EDUCATION FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS REGARDING CLIMATE CHANGE, EROSION AND LONG-TERM MAINTENANCE OF THE TREES THROUGH OUR GREEN MEMBERSHIP. IN THE DEPARTMENT OF OCOTEPEQUE, THROUGH THE GOVERNMENT PROGRAM OF SEDIS, WE COMPLETED CONSTRUCTION OF AN ADDITIONAL 14 HOMES, ALONG WITH LATRINES, ROOFTOPS AND OTHER ESSENTIAL INFRASTRUCTURE, AS WELL AS MONITORING AND MAINTENANCE OF 13 HOMES PREVIOUSLY CONSTRUCTED IN 2021. IN OUR ONGOING COLLABORATION WITH NUEVO PARAISO HIGH SCHOOL, WE COMPLETED SEVERAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS INCLUDING: NEW BLEACHERS, REPAIRS OF THE CAFETERIA ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, WATER SUPPLY AND STRUCTURE, REPAIR OF BATHROOM WASTEWATER SYSTEMS, MAIN ENTRANCE WINDOW REPAIR AND CONSTRUCTION OF AN ACCESS RAMP TO THE MULTIPURPOSE ROOM. OUR BUILDING HOPE CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM ALSO COMPLETED AN ACCESS ROAD TO THE PUEBLO NUEVO COMMUNITY OF OJO DE AGUA AND BUILT AN ACCESS SEWER IN THE COMMUNITY OF CONDEGA, MOROCELI.OUR MICROENTERPRISE PROGRAM FACILITATED DISTRIBUTION OF 23 BACKPACKS FULL OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO STUDENTS IN 4 COMMUNITIES AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE NUEVA ESPERANZA CHICKEN COOP IS ONGOING. WE HAVE ALSO MADE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS WITH EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, MEETINGS AND DESIGN OF THE NUEVO PARAISO CHICKEN COOP. ADMINISTRATIVELY, WE COMPLETED A THOROUGH FINANCIAL AUDIT OF EXPENSES 2018-2022 AND CELEBRATED MANY LOCAL COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES INCLUDING DAY OF THE CHILD AND OUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS DINNER.
