Part 3

BEARGRASS HOLDS ITS ANNUAL, LATE-SUMMER WRITING RETREAT AT THE HISTORIC E BAR L RANCH IN GREENOUGH, MONTANA. THIS RETREAT BRINGS TOGETHER 15-20 NATIONALLY-RECOGNIZED AUTHORS/EDITORS/AGENTS WITH ABOUT 50 PARTICIPATING WRITERS (SOME OVERNIGHT GUESTS, SOME DAY-PASSERS) TO CREATE A COMMUNITY OF WRITERS THROUGH FOUR DAYS OF WORKSHOPS, READINGS, CRAFT TALKS, ONE-ON-ONE MANUSCRIPT CONSULTATIONS, AND TIME TO WRITE. THE BEARGRASS RETREAT HAS FILLED A WRITING-RETREAT GAP IN MONTANA, A STATE WITH A RICH LITERARY HISTORY, YET NO OTHER SUCH WRITING RETREAT. IN JUST FIVE YEARS, BEARGRASS RETREATS HAVE GATHERED WRITERS AND PARTICIPANTS FROM A DOZEN STATES; OUR VISITING WRITERS HAVE BEEN ROUGHLY SPLIT BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN, REPRESENTING LITERATURE OF THE AMERICAN WEST, THE ENVIRONMENT AND NATIVE AMERICAN ISSUES, AS WELL AS NON-REGIONAL TOPICS OF FAMILY, COMING-OF-AGE AND GENDER IDENTITY.
