THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION IS TO MOBILIZE THE LOCAL COMMUNITY TO HELP THE NEEDIEST AMONG US BY SUPPORTING AND ENHANCING THE COMMUNITY SYSTEM OF SERVICES, PROGRAMS, AND FACILITIES THAT WORK TO PREVENT AND MAKE HOMELESSNESS RARE AND NONRECURRING. THE MISSION IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH FUND RAISING AND PROVIDING RESOURCES INTO THE COMMUNITY.

THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED A GRANT TO THE JUDEO CHRISTIAN OUTREACH CENTER TO SERVE HOMELESS ADULT INDIVIDUALS WITH SECURITY DEPOSITS NEEDED TO SECURE PERMANENT AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES AS WELL AS HELP CLIENTS WHO ARE NOT YET FULLY SELF SUPPORTING WITH EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE. THE GRANT HELPED HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS AND CLIENTS IN THREE EXISTING HOUSING PROGRAMS (1) EMERGENCY HOUSING (SHELTER), (2) VETERANS TRANSITIONAL HOUSING AND (3) RAPID REHOUSING INITIATIVES. SPECIFICALLY, $5,000 OF THE GRANT WAS USED FOR EMERGENCY HOUSING AND MOVE IN ASSISTANCE, AND $5,000 WAS USED FOR MOVE IN ASSISTANCE FOR VETERANS TRANSITIONAL HOUSING.


THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED A GRANT TO THE VIRGINIA BEACH EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO BE USED TO SUPPLY "BEACH BAGS" WEEKLY DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR (35 WEEKS) TO 171 STUDENTS IDENTIFIED AS HOMELESS AND/OR NEEDY. EACH BAG CONTAINS 10 SHELF STABLE FOOD ITEMS TO SUSTAIN THE STUDENTS OVER WEEKENDS AND SCHOOL BREAKS. IN TOTAL THE FUNDS PROVIDED BY VB HOME NOW PROVIDED OVER 6,000 BEACH BAGS TO STUDENTS THAT HAD BEEN IDENTIFIED AS HOMELESSNESS AND EXPERIENCING FOOD INSECURITY.


THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED FUNDS TO THE HOUSING RESOURCE CENTER ("HRC") FOR 2 NEW STORAGE CONTAINERS THAT ARE USED TO STORE CLOTHING, NON-PERISHABLE FOOD, HYGIENE ITEMS, BOTTLED WATER, LINENS AND OTHER ITEMS DONATED BY THE PUBLIC FOR USE BY UNSHELTERED INDIVIDUALS AND OTHERS MOVING FROM HOMELESSNESS TO HOUSING AND HELP THEM TO SETTLE IN; INCLUDING INDIVIDUALS HOUSED AT THE HRC. THE HRC HOLDS PERIODIC COMMUNITY DONATION DRIVES IN AN EFFORT TO FILL THE CONTAINERS. THE COST OF THE CONTAINERS ALSO INCLUDED STIPENDS PAID TO THE RESIDENTS OF THE HRC TO PAINT THE STORAGE CONTAINERS WITH ASSISTANCE FROM A LOCAL ARTIST.


OTHER SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE PROVIDING FUNDS FOR BUS TRANSPORTATION, UTILITY COSTS AND RESOURCE MATERIALS FOR HOMELESS PERSONS DIRECTING THEM TO A WIDE RANGE OF MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES, WE WELL AS HYGIENE AND SAFETY PRODUCTS.
