THE FELLOWSHIP: BLACK MALE EDUCATORS FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE IS A PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP AND ACTIVIST ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO ADVANCING THE RECRUITMENT, DEVELOPMENT AND RETENTION OF BLACK MALE EDUCATORS IN SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT GREATER PHILADELPHIA.

THE FELLOWSHIP'S PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE THE PROTEGE-HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS THAT HELP TO CREATE PATHWAYS INTO THE EDUCATION FIELD FOR ASPIRING EDUCATORS. THE REGIONAL CONVENING CONFERENCE THAT SUPPORTS EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS, ASPIRING EDUCATORS AND MID-CAREER CHANGERS THAT ARE INTERESTED IN THE EDUCATION FIELD AND NATIONAL CONVENING CONFERENCE THAT CREATES A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AFFINITY SPACE FOR BLACK MALE EDUCATORS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. SCHOLARSHIPS AND STIPENDS ARE AWARDED TO PARTICIPANTS.


THE CENTER FOR BLACK EDUCATOR DEVELOPMENT LAUNCHED THE FREEDOM SCHOOLS LITERACY ACADEMY - AN 8-WEEK SUMMER LITERACY AND APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM SERVING ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. DURING THE PROGRAM 85% OF THE HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS EXPRESSED A GREATER INTEREST IN TEACHING THAN WHEN THEY STARTED, AND THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS SHOWED SIGNIFICANT GAINS IN THEIR LITERACY SKILLS. DURING THE YEAR, THE CENTER PROVIDED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS AND ONE ON ONE TEACHER COACHING TO TEACHERS IN THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA.
