THE MISSION OF UNDER ONE SKY VILLAGE FOUNDATION IS TO PROVIDE YOUTH IN FOSTER CARE WITH A MENTORING COMMUNITY OF PEERS AND ADULTS AND TO RENEW THE HUMAN SPIRIT.

Part 3
UNDER ONE SKY PROVIDED UPLIFTING AND RENEWING EXPERIENCES TO 48 CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE TOTALING 6,895 PROGRAM HOURS. OUR THREE LARGEST PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE JOURNEY EXPERIENCE, THE JUNIOR JOURNEY EXPERIENCE AND THE SUPPORTIVE SERVICES PROGRAM. FOR THE JOURNEY AND JUNIOR JOURNAL EXPERIENCES, UNDER ONE SKY LEASED SPACE AT TWO WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA SUMMER CAMPS, AS WELL AS ADDITIONAL LOCATIONS, TO GIVE SPECIALIZED, TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE AND ENRICHING EXPERIENCES. THIS INCLUDED OPPORTUNITIES TO CONNECT WITH OTHER YOUNG PEOPLE IN FOSTER CARE, TO ENJOY OUTDOOR ADVENTURES AND CHALLENGE ACTIVITIES, TO TAKE PART IN SELF-EXPRESSION WORKSHOPS, AND TO BENEFIT FROM MENTORING OPPORTUNITES WITH TRAINED STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS.
WE HOSTED 14 PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT YEAR THAT INCLUDED DAY-LONG RETREATS, OVERNIGHT WEEKEND CAMPS, AND WEEK-LONG RESIDENTIAL CAMPS FOR YOUTH IN FOSTER CARE, AGES 7-17. THE SUPPORTIVE SERVICES PROGRAM PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES IN BETWEEN THE WEEKENDS AND WEEKS AT CAMP-BASED PROGRAMS. STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS VISIT YOUTH IN THEIR FOSTER HOMES AND TAKE THEM ON "MEET-UP'S" WITH THE NEW FRIENDS THAT THEY MET AT CAMP.
UNDER ONE SKY WORKS WITH EACH YOUTH'S SOCIAL WORKER ON THEIR THERAPEUTIC GOALS AND THEIR INDIVIDUAL PATHS--WHETHER IT BE FUTURE ADOPTION, REUNIFICATION WITH THEIR BIRTH FAMILY, OR SETTLING INTO THEIR ADOPTIVE HOMES. UNDER ONE SKY HELD FOUR TRAININGS FOR STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS THAT TRAINED AND EDUCATED THEM IN TRAUMA- INFORMED APPROACHES TO WORKING WITH YOUNG PEOPLE.
