THE CENTER FACILITATES A SENIOR PEER COUNSELING PROGRAM THAT OFFERS SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE TO OVER 200 SENIORS AND THEIR CAREGIVERS THROUGH INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP SESSIONS, ADDRESSING THEIR PHYSICAL, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL AND SPIRITUAL NEEDS. THE STAFF COORDINATES WITH OVER 80 COMMUNITY AGENCIES WHERE SENIORS CAN BE MATCHED WITH THE SERVICE THEY NEED.THE CENTER HAS A FREE CARELINE TELEPHONE REASSURANCE PROGRAM WHERE VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE DAILY CALLS TO SENIORS WANTING A FRIENDLY CALL WEEKLY. ANOTHER SERVICE THAT THE CENTER OFFERS IS REAL HELP PROGRAM THAT MATCHES SENIORS WITH QUALIFIED AND LOW-COST PROVIDERS WHO CAN BE EMPLOYED TO RUN ERRANDS, HELP AROUND THE HOUSE, DO GROCERY SHOPPING, GARDENING, LIGHT CLEANING OR MAKING MEALS.THE CENTER HAS A FREE NEWSPAPER CALLED SUCCESSFUL AGING WHERESENIORS CAN READ ABOUT IMPORTANT ISSUES; LEARN ABOUT ACTIVITIES, ASWELL AS USEFUL HEALTH AND SAFETY TIPS. IT IS PUBLISHED QUARTERLY, AND6,000 COPIES ARE DISTRIBUTED TO OVER 140 SITES IN THE GREATER SANTABARBARA AREA.THE CENTER OFFERS SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY AT SEVERAL SENIOR HOUSING COMPLEXES, INCLUDING SUCH ACTIVITIES AS SUPPORT GROUPS, CHAIR YOGA, BINGO, FIELD TRIPS AND GENERAL SUPPORT.
