PRESERVATION OF SAN MARCOS FOOTHILLS. EDUCATION & PLANNING - PUBLIC CONTACT AND OUTREACH TO INSURE PRESERVATION OF THE SAN MARCOS FOOTHILLS. THE ORGANIZATION PUBLISHES SCIENTIFIC STUDIES TO THAT END. PUBLICATIONS INCLUDE THE PLAN FOR THE PRESERVATION AND STEWARDSHIP OF THE SAN MARCOS FOOTHILLS. HARD COPIES OF THE PLAN ARE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC AS WELL AS COPIES ON THE ORGANIZATION'S WEBSITE, WWWW.SANMARCOSFOOTHILLS.ORG. THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTS MUCH OF ITS OWN GEOLOGICAL AND BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH STUDYING THE GEOLOGY, BIRDS, OTHER WILDLIFE, VEGETATION, EROSION, AND ARCHEALOGICAL SITES. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO DOES HABITAT RESTORATION. AS PART OF ITS OUTREACH PROGRAM, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES SPEAKERS FOR LECTURES AND PUBLISHES A NEWSLETTER THAT REACHES APPROXIMATELY 1,000 PEOPLE BY MAIL AND MORE ON THE INTERNET. ADDITIONALLY, IT AIDS IN THE PURCHASE OF LAND TO BE PERMANENTLY SET ASIDE FOR OPEN SPACE PRESERVATION.
