COMMUNITY OF CARING MONTEREY PENINSULA PROVIDES LEADERSHIP AND SUPPORT IN BUILDING A CULTURE OF CARING THAT ENHANCES THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN MONTEREY COUNTY. THE ORGANIZATION DESIGNS AND PROVIDES TRAINING AND LINKS TO COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS TO PROMOTE ATTITUDES AND ACTIONS DEMONSTRATING CARING, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, TRUST AND FAMILY. THESE GOALS ARE ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH THE COOPERATIVE INVOLVEMENT OF YOUTH, BUSINESSES, PUBLIC AND NON-PROFIT PROFESSIONALS AND CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS THROUGHOUT THE MONTEREY PENINSULA. SPECIFIC CURRICULUM AND ACTIVITIES ARE DEVELOPED TO SUPPORT THE AFTER SCHOOL ACADEMY PROGRAM AT 18 MPUSD ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL SITES. THE PROGRAM MANAGER DELIVERS TRAINING AND SUPPORT TO THE SITE STAFF, SUPERVISES DELIVERY OF THE CURRICULUM AND SUPPORTS THE STAFF IN CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT THAT DEVELOPS CORE VALUES IN MORE THAN 2,000 STUDENTS. ADDITIONAL OUTREACH TO AREA HIGH SCHOOLS AND DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS TO LINK TEEN VOLUNTEERS WITH COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITIES EXTENDS THE REACH OF THE PROGRAM FROM GRADES 1-16.
