COMMUNITY SCHOOLS PURPOSE IS TO BREAK DOWN THE BARRIERS TO STUDENT LEARNING BY CONVENING PRIMARILY EXISTING RESOURCES TO USE THE SCHOOL AS THE NEIGHBORHOOD HUB TO PROMOTE AND SUPPORT HEALTHY, VIBRANT FAMILIES, SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES. COMMUNITY SCHOOLS COLLABORATES WITH MORE THAN 275 COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO SUPPORT STUDENT SUCCESS BY BUILDING SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT FOR: MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH, BASIC NEEDS, FAMILY ENGAGEMENT, SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING, AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FOR POSITIVE GROWTH.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT (INNOVATION) CONTAINS PROGRAMS THAT ARE PILOT PROGRAMS TO EVALUATE THEIR LONG TERM VIABILITY. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ON-GOING PROGRAM ACTIVITIES: SHAKESPEARE IN SHADES, CODETN, TEACHERPRENUER, THANK-A-TEACHER, SECONDARY TUTORING CENTERS, ARTS INTEGRATED TUTORING, AND DATA ANALYST.
PROJECT GRAD KNOXVILLE IS AN INITIATIVE OF THE KNOX EDUCATION FOUNDATION. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH KNOX COUNTY SCHOOLS AND THE COMMUNITIES SERVED, PROJECT GRAD KNOXVILLE IMPACTS GENERATIONAL CHANGE THROUGH EDUCATION. TAKING A K-16 (ELEMENTARY THROUGH POSTSECONDARY) APPROACH, THE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON COLLEGE/CAREER ACCESS AND SUCCESS; SOCIAL SERVICES SUPPORT; FAMILY, NEIGHBORHOOD & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT; INTENTIONAL SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS FROM DISADVANTAGED CIRCUMSTANCES; AND SCHOLARS IN 14 URBAN SCHOOLS IN KNOXVILLE. THE WORK OF PGK TARGETS: 1) INCREASED K12 KNOWLEDGE OF POSTSECONDARY OPTIONS, ACCESS, AND PATHWAYS; 2) INCREASED HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION RATE; AND 3) INCREASED HIGHER EDUCATION ENROLLMENT AND COMPLETION RATE.
