OFFICERS WERE TRAINED TO EVALUATE, IDENTIFY, AND DE-ESCALATE CRISIS SITUATIONS INVOLVING INDIVIDUALS IN CRISIS. THIS INCLUDES MENTAL HEALTH, DRUG, ALCOHOL, AND MILITARY REINTEGRATION ISSUES, THROUGH THE USE OF CLASSROOM PARTICIPATION AND ROLE PLAYING WITH PROFESSIONAL ACTORS. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE TRAINING IS TO MINIMIZE USE OF FORCE AND SEEK ALTERNATIVES TO INCARCERATION BY TRAINING OFFICERS TO COMMUNICATE WITH INDIVIDUALS IN CRISIS AND RESOLVE THE SITATION THROUGH THE USE OF LOCAL RESOURCES AND TO CREATE COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS WITH MENTAL PROFESSIONALS AND THE COURTS.
