RELIGIOUS COUNSELING THE REUNION INSTITUTE HANDLED 50 CASES OF INDIVIDUALS IN NEED OF PERSONAL AND FAMILY COUNSELING IN REGARDS TO ISSUES OF A RELIGIOUS NATURE. MANY OF THE CASES CONCERNED THE INFLUENCE OF NON-MAINSTREAM RELIGIOUS GROUPS OR TEACHINGS ON THESE INDIVIDUALS (COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS "CULTS"). AS PART OF THIS EFFORT, THE INSTUTUTE MAINTAINED THE RELIGIOUS-CRISIS TASK FORCE AS A RESOURCE GROUP OF 11 ACADEMIC EXPERTS ON SUCH RELIGIOUS MOVEMENTS. REUNION'S MENTORING PROGRAM FOCUSED ON SERVING KEY INDIVIDUALS IN NEED OF WEEKLY GUIDANCE, INSTRUCTION, TUTORING, AND ROLE-MODELING IN THE AREAS OF PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNICATION SKILLS, PHYSICAL ED, AND SPIRITUAL GROWTH. DR. ARNOLD SERVED IN THIS CAPACITY AS LEAD MENTOR AND TUTOR.


RELIGIOUS EDUCATION THE REUNION INSTITUTE SPONSORED AND SUPPORTED MAJOR LECTURES OF RELIGION FOR THE COMMUNITY AT NO CHARGE TO THE PUBLIC. THE INSTITUTE HELD MAJOR SUMMER PROGRAM AT RICE UNIVERSITY ON RELIGION AND SCIENCE. AUDIO-VISUAL REPRODUCTIONS OF THIS EVENT PRODUCED FOR CONTINUEING EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES. ALSO, THE REUNION INSTITUTE'S RELIGIOUS, HISTORICAL, AND ARCHAELOGICAL WEBSITES CONTINUED TO INFORM THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS OF THE INSTITUTE ON THE WORLD-WIDE WEB. THE INSTITUTE ALSO SPONSORED DR. PHIL ARNOLD'S INTERNET PRESENTATION IN SEATTLE, WASHINGTON ABOUT THE SPIRITUAL JOURNEY TO VIEWERS. WE SERVED OVER 700


RESEARCH THE REUNION INSTITUTE MAINTAINED A NEW RELIGION GROUP LIBRARY COLLECTION OF ARTICLES, BOOKS, AND TAPES FOR THE USE OF SCHOLARS, STUDENTS, AND RESEARCHERS WITH A FOCUS ON THE 1993 WACO STANDOFF. THE INSTITUTE ALSO HOUSED A COLLECTION FOR PUBLIC USE ON THE BIBLE AND BIBLICAL ARCHAEOLOGY AND THE HISTORY OF RELIGION. THIS RESOURCE WAS UTILIZED BY ABOUT 30 PERSONS. RESEARCH TOPICS INCLUDED: THE TRINITY AND CHRISTOLOGY, AS WELL AS THE NATURE OF THE ATONEMENT IN CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY; AS WELL AS SECOND TEMPLE JUDAISM AND ITS RELATION TO CHRISTIAN ORIGINS. IMPORTANT RESULTS OF THIS RESEARCH WERE PRESENTED IN SERMONS AND STUDIES THROUGH THE REUNION CHURCH SERVICE AND BIBLE STUDIES. OVER 150 WERE SERVED.
