THE MEMBER INSTITUTIONS BENEFITED BY THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE'S ORGANIZATION AND SUPERVISION OF THEIR INSTITUTIONS' INTERCOLLEGIATE SPORTS. THE CONFERENCE ALSO ENDEAVORED TO:(1) ESTABLISH STANDARDS AND PROMOTE SCHOLARSHIP AND HIGH IDEAS OF SPORTSMANSHIP AND EQUITY IN THE MEMBER INSTITUTIONS.(2) FORMULATE PRINCIPLES TO GUIDE THE CONDUCT OF ATHLETIC PROGRAMS OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY AND CHARACTER CONSISTENT WITH THE MISSIONS OF THE MEMBER INSTITUTIONS IN THE CONFERENCE, AND(3) TO PROMOTE AND COORDINATE PROGRAMS OF ACADEMIC COOPERATION AND BUILD ON THE ALLIANCE FOSTERED BY THE CONFERENCE'S ATHLETIC PROGRAMS TO ADVANCE THE ACADEMIC MISSIONS OF THE MEMBER INSTITUTIONS.
