THE MISSION OF GREAT PROMISE FOR AMERICAN INDIANS IS TO PRESERVE THE TRADITIONS AND CULTURES OF AMERICAN INDIANS, AND TO SUPPORT THE HEALTH AND EDUCATION NEEDS OF THEIR YOUTH AND FAMILIES.

Part 3

AUSTIN POWWOW AND AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE FESTIVAL IS AN ANNUAL EVENT HELD EACH AUTUMN. MANY INDIGENOUS PEOPLES COME FROM ALL PARTS OF THE US TO PARTICIPATE. AUDIENCES COME FROM NEARLY EVERY STATE IN THE UNION. THERE IS AN EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATION IN THE AM. ARTISTS EXHIBITS REPRESENT ALL NATIONS AND GROUPS FROM EACH OF THE AREAS OF NORTH AMERICA. NATIVE CRAFTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING AND SAMPLING. TO BE AN EXHIBITOR, ALL ARTISTS MUST FOLLOW THE AMERICAN INDIAN ARTS AND CRAFTS ACT. DRUM GROUPS, SINGERS AND DANCERS PERFORM AND ENCOURAGE VISITORS AND AUDIENCES TO JOIN IN.


CONSULTATION ON HANDLING OF MUSEUM ARTIFACTS


RED VOICES IN SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES THE HISTORY AND CULTURES OF THE MANY NATIONS OF AMERICAN INDIANS ARE PRESENTED TO STUDENTS IN PUBLIC AND CHARTER SCHOOLS, GRADES PRE-K THROUGH 12. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO ASSISTS WITH PRESENTING PROGRAMS IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES. MEMBERS COLLABORATE WITH NATIVE AND INDIGENOUS STUDIES DEPARTMENTS. IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE, PROGRAMS ARE TAKEN INTO COMMUNITY CENTERS AND LIBRARIES SO THAT LEARNERS OF ALL AGES MAY BENEFIT.


TEXAS AMERIAN INDAN HERITAGE DAY IS A RECENTLY DECLARED HONOR DAY FOR AMERICAN INCIANS ONCE/OR CURRENTLY LIVING IN TEXAS. GREAT PROMISE FOR AMERICAN INDIANS PARTNERS WITH THE BULLOCK TEXAS STATE HISTORY MUSEUM TO BRING SPECIAL PROGRAMMING TO THE HUNDREDS OF VISITORS ON THE LAST FRIDAY OF SEPTEMBER. THE STORY OF HOW AMERICAN INDIANS LIVED, DIED AND WERE DRIVEN FROM THIS TERRITORY IS EXPLORED.
