LATAN ASSISTS INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES TO ACHIEVE ENHANCED QUALITY OF LIFE AND GREATER INDEPENDENCE THROUGH ACCESS TO ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY (AT). LATAN SERVES LOUISIANA RESIDENTS OF ALL AGES WITH ALL TYPES OF DISABILITIES, INCLUDING WOUNDED WARRIORS, AND WITH LIMITATIONS DUE TO AGING WHO NEED AT AND DAILY LIVING AIDS. AT INCLUDES ITEMS THAT INDIVIDUALS USE TO ASSIST THEM IN DAILY ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS CANES, WHEELCHAIRS, COMMUNICAION DEVICES, HEARING AIDS, KEYBOARD ALTERNATIVES, LEARNING SOFTWARE AND VISION AIDS.

DEVICE DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM - LATAN DEMONSTRATES ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY TO INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES AND WITH AGE RELATED LIMITATIONS SO THAT THEY CAN TRY OUT THE DEVICE AND MAKE INFORMED CHOICES BEFORE PURCHASING.


DEVICE LOAN PROGRAM - LATAN PROVIDES LOANS OF ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY DEVICES AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE PURPOSE OF INDIVIDUALS TRYING VARIOUS DEVICES TO SEE WHAT WORKS BEST FOR THEM IN SCHOOL, AT WORK, AT HOME AND IN THE COMMUNITY. THIS ALLOWS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR INDIVIDUALS TO TRY OUT DEVICES IN THEIR OWN ENVIRONMENTS BEFORE PURCHASE, WHILE THEIR DEVICE IS BEING REPAIRED, OR WHILE WAITING FOR ONE THAT THEY HAVE ORDERED. TRAINING - LATAN PROVIDES ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY TRAINING EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE - LATAN PROVIDES TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE RELATED TO ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY.


PUBLIC AWARENESS - LATAN PROVIDES ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY (AT) AWARENESS AND INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC, REGARDING THE BENEFITS OF AT, THROUGH ITS WEBSITE, PRESENTATIONS AND EXHIBITS, INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE, PUBLICATIONS, PUBLIC MEDIA AND OTHER VEHICLES.


DEVICE REUTILIZATION PROGRAM - LATAN PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALS TO ACQUIRE PREVIOUSLY OWNED ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY DEVICES, SUCH AS WHEELCHAIRS, WALKERS, CANES, COMPUTERS, COMMUNICATION DEVICES, BATH CHAIRS, AND MANY OTHERS, TO USE IN THEIR DAILY ACTIVITIES FOR EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT AND COMMUNITY LIVING.
