THE MISSION OF MERIDIAN CANINE RESCUE IS TO SAVE DOGS' LIVES THROUGH STORYTELLING AND EDUCATION. WE DO SO BY PROVIDING SHELTER AND CARE FOR SURRENDERED/TRANSFERRED DOGS, REGARDLESS OF APPARENT BREED OR AGE, AND SUPPORTING LOCAL FAMILIES AS THEY MANAGE THEIR DOGS' BEHAVIORAL HEALTH.

MCR ACCEPTS OWNER SURRENDERED AND TRANSFERRED DOGS INTO ITS CUSTODY FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADOPTION, PROVIDES COMMUNITY SUPPORT SERVICES TO DEFER SURRENDERS AND EDUCATE THE PUBLIC, ASSISTS IN IDAHO STATE SHELTER COALITION EFFORTS, AND OFFERS HUMAN/DOG TRAINING BASED ON THE LATEST RESEARCH IN CANINE BEHAVIOR SCIENCE. IN 2021, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED PRE- AND POST-ADOPTION COUNSELING TO HUNDREDS OF FAMILIES AND FOUND HOMES FOR 19 DOGS. THERE WAS A TOTAL OF 22 INTAKES, INCLUDING 6 AT-RISK ANIMALS FROM OTHER SHELTERS, AND MCR PROVIDED THEM WITH FOOD, SHELTER, MEDICAL CARE, AND DAILY ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES. THE ORGANIZATION REDESIGNED ITS BEHAVIOR & TRAINING AND VOLUNTEER & FOSTER PROGRAMS IN ORDER TO PROMOTE HIGHER STANDARDS OF CARE AND TO EDUCATE ITS TEAM MEMBERS IN TOPICS RELATING TO HUSBANDRY, ENRICHMENT, TRAINING, AND BEHAVIOR HEALTH. ITS CANINE REHABILITATION EFFORTS WERE SHARED WITH THE PUBLIC TO FOSTER DIALOGUE ABOUT BEHAVIOR AND TRAINING. MCR WELCOMED AND TRAINED 28 NEW VOLUNTEERS AND 2 NEW FOSTERS IN 2021.

THIS PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES OUR MAIN ENRICHMENT PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES DAILY EXERCISES AND ACTIVITIES TO STIMULATE OUR DOGS' SENSES AND RELIEVE STRESS OR BOREDOM.
