THE ORGANIZATION AWARDED RESEARCH GRANTS IN THE AMOUNT OF $509,989 DURING 2021. THESE GRANTS WERE AWARDED TO FUND THE DEVELOPMENT OF POTENTIAL THERAPIES FOR DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY UTILIZING STRATEGIES DESIGNED TO REPAIR THE GENETIC FLAW OF THIS CATASTROPHIC, SINGLE-GENE-DEFECT DISORDER; SUPPORT ACADEMIC RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS IN EFFORTS TO BRING THERAPIES TO THE MARKETPLACE THAT WOULD COMPENSATE FOR THE LACK OF A PROTEIN ESSENTIAL IN MUSCLE REGENERATION AND REPAIR; AND FUND SCIENTIFIC WORKSHOPS FOR LEADING MUSCLE RESEARCHERS AND CLINICIANS TO EFFECTIVELY COLLABORATE ON STRATEGIES FOR TRANSLATION APPROACHES TO MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY.
