THE ARKANSAS STATE EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION (ASEA'S)FISCAL YEAR END 6 30 2021 HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED: LEGISLATIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDED PROTECTING THE BENEFITS OF RETIRED STATE EMPLOYEES. INDEPENDENT PROPOSALS WERE INTRODUCED TO REDUCE THE ANNUAL PENSION COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT FROM 3% TO THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX RATE. THIS PROPOSAL DID NOT LEAVE COMMITTEE AFTER ASEA LOBBIED COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND WE RALLIED OUR RETIRED MEMBERS TO CONTACT THEIR LEGISLATORS. AFTER THAT SITUATION A DECISION WAS MADE BY THE EMPLOYEE BENEFITS BOARD TO REMOVE RETIREES FROM THE STATE AND EMPLOYEE SUPPORTED PHARMACY PLAN AND ENROLL THEM IN A MEDICARE PART "D" PLAN. ASEA FORMED A RETIREE SUB- COMMITTEE TO FIGHT THIS ISSUE AND CONTACTED RETIREES FROM ALL OVER THE STATE. SOON AFTER THE EBD BOARD HELD A SPECIAL MEETING AND A MOTION WAS MADE TO EXPUNGE THE VOTE. SINCE THEN A MORE CAREFUL APPROACH HAS BEEN MADE TO REDUCE THE INCOMING DEFICIT. ASEA WAS PROUD TO AWARD A RECORD NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS DURING OUR FISCAL YEAR. A TOTAL OF 20 1,000 SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TO MEMBERS OF ASEA AND THEIR FAMILIES.
