THE AAMC OPERATES THE MUSIC RESOURCE CENTER, AN AFTER-SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAM FOR TEENAGERS IN THE DULUTH SUPERIOR AREA. THE MISSION IS TO EDUCATE AND INSPIRE YOUNG PEOPLE, AND THROUGH MUSIC EQUIP THEM WITH LIFE SKILLS FOR THE FUTURE. WE ACCOMPLISH THIS MISSION THROUGH MUSIC EDUCATION AND PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES, AS WELL AS LIFE SKILL MENTORING. THE OPENING OF THE 11TH YEAR OF THE MRC IS CURRENTLY PROVIDING ONE-ON-ONE LESSONS ONLINE TO YOUTH DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. THE MRC IS LOOKING FORWARD TO REOPENING IN PERSON TOWARDS THE END OF 2022 OR THE BEGINNING OF 2023.

THE AAMC CONTINUES TO FURTHER THE ARTS PORTION OF OUR MISSION BY PROVIDING AFFORDABLE ARTIST STUDIO SPACES AT THE AMORY ANNEX ART STUDIOS IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT TO THE HISTORIC ARMORY. THE ARTISTS CURRENTLY AT THE ANNEX INCLUDE BLACKSMITHS, PAINTER, VISUAL ARTIST, SEVERAL JEWELERS AND A PIANO REPAIR WORKSHOP. THE GOAL WILL BE TO RELOCATE THESE ARTISTS, AND MORE TO THE ARMORY ONCE IT IS REHABILITATED.

THE ARMORY ARTS AND MUSIC CENTER (AAMC) TOOK SEVERAL BIG STEPS FORWARD IN 2021 TOWARDS ITS VISION OF CREATING A MIXED-USE PROJECT IN THE ARMORY, CENTERED AROUND A PUBLIC MARKET/FOOD HALL IN THE DRILL HALL, AND INCLUDING A SHARED USE COMMERCIAL KITCHEN. A NUMBER OF STUDIES WERE COMPLETED TOWARDS THE GOAL OF ASSESSING POTENTIAL COSTS AND VIABILITY OF THE PROJECT. THESE INCLUDED: * PHASE 1 ENVIRONMENTAL SITE ASSESSMENT - BARR ENGINEERING, MARCH 2021 * BUILDING MATERIAL MANAGEMENT PLAN - BARR ENGINEERING, AUGUST 26, 2001 * MARKET STUDY FOR A SHARED USE COMMERCIAL KITCHEN - HTB PROJECT NAVIGATION, AUGUST 10, 2021 * MARKET & FINANCIAL FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR THE HISTORIC DULUTH ARMORY - F.I. SALTER, JULY 28, 2021 ALL OF THESE STUDIES WERE FUNDED BY AN EPA GRANT TO THE CITY OF DULUTH FOR THE AAMC. THE AAMC ALSO SECURED A PREDEVELOPMENT LOAN FROM LISC (LOCAL INITIATIVE SUPPORT CORPORATION) IN 2021 TO COVER PREDEVELOPMENT COSTS SUCH AS ARCHITECTURAL AND ENGINEERING WORK, LEGAL ASSISTANCE, AND ACCOUNTING EXPERTISE. IN DECEMBER OF 2021 THE AAMC WAS THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE WILL BE WORKING WITH WELL-RESPECTED REGIONAL DEVELOPER SHERMAN ASSOCIATES ON THE REDEVELOPMENT OF THE ARMORY PROJECT.
