THE MISSION OF THE CALIFORNIA BICYCLE COALITION EDUCATION FUND IS TO SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS WHO ADVOCATE FOR EQUITABLE, INCLUSIVE, AND PROSPEROUS COMMUNITIES WHERE BICYCLING HELPS TO ENABLE ALL CALIFORNIANS TO LEAD HEALTHY AND JOYFUL LIVES.

SUPPORTING CALBIKE AND ITS ADVOCACY:THE CBCEFS MAIN EFFORTS WERE IN SUPPORT OF THE CHARITABLE ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION WORK OF THE CALIFORNIA BICYCLE COALITION (CBC), ESPECIALLY ITS ADVOCACY FOR QUICK-BUILD PROJECTS TO EXPEDITE BIKE SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS. WE PRODUCED SEVERAL WEBINARS, A 77-PAGE MANUAL, AND AN EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FOR DISTRIBUTION TO HUNDREDS OF ADVOCATES AND ELECTED OFFICIALS ACROSS THE STATE. WE CONTINUED TO MONITOR AND IMPROVE CALTRANS COMPLETE STREETS POLICY THAT REQUIRES THE CONSIDERATION OF BIKE AND PEDESTRIAN SAFETY FACILITIES IN EVERY ROAD REPAIR PROJECT. WE ALSO SUPPORTED COMMUNITY BIKE SHOPS WITH TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND PROMOTION. SUPPORTING ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN THE CENTRAL VALLEY:THE CBCEF COMPLETED ITS ENGAGEMENT WITH TWO CALTRANS SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION GRANTS DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR. THE ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION CONNECTIVITY PLANNING AND BIKE SHARING FOR DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES PROJECT CREATED BLUEPRINTS FOR BIKE ACCESS TO HIGH-SPEED RAIL STATIONS IN MERCED, FRESNO, AND BAKERSFIELD AND A PROPOSAL FOR A LONG DISTANCE BIKE ROUTE LINKING THOSE CITIES. IT ALSO HELPED TO CRAFT A PLAN FOR A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP THAT WOULD BRING EQUITABLE BIKE SHARE TO BAKERSFIELD. THE PROJECT PROMOTING SAFE BICYCLE TRAVEL OPPORTUNITIES FOR BICYCLE TOURISM AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WORKED WITH STAKEHOLDERS IN TUOLUMNE, SAN JOAQUIN, ALPINE, STANISLAUS, AND CALAVERAS COUNTIES TO DEVELOP PLANS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO BIKE SAFETY AND ACCOMMODATIONS THAT WOULD ATTRACT TOURISTS, SUPPORT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, AND IMPROVE OPTIONS FOR HEALTHY TRANSPORTATION AND RECREATION FOR THE COUNTIES RESIDENTS.SHASTA LIVING STREETS:SUPPORTING SHASTA LIVING STREETS AND THE MOTHERLODE BICYCLE COALITION. SHASTA LIVING STREETS IS A SUBSTANTIAL ORGANIZATION THAT ADVANCES CBCEFS MISSION INREDDING BY HELPING TO CREATE BETTER BIKEWAYS AND TRAILS AND SUPPORTING MORE THAN 300BUSINESS AND INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS AND THOUSANDS OF EVENT AND SOCIAL MEDIA PARTICIPANTS.THEY ARE OPENING AN EXCITING FACILITY TO SERVE AS A COMMUNITY HUB FOR ACTIVETRANSPORTATION. THE MOTHERLODE BICYCLE COALITION IS A VERY SMALL VOLUNTEER-LED GROUPTHAT PROMOTES SAFER BICYCLING IN THE SIERRA FOOTHILLS ADJACENT TO THE NORTHERN SANJOAQUIN VALLEY. THE DPH IS ATTEMPTING TO SELL SPECIALTY LICENSE PLATES THAT WILLGENERATE PROCEEDS TO SUPPORT BETTER BICYCLING THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA.
