Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

GRASSROOTS OUTREACH AND EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC ON CALIFORNIA FOREST PROTECTION. WE CALLED FOR LETTERS AND CALLS TO CALFIRE DEMANDING THAT THE AGENCY IMPOSE A MORATORIUM ON ALL LOGGING AT JACKSON DEMONSTRATION STATE FOREST UNTIL A NEW MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR THE FOREST IS WRITTEN. ADVOCACY FOR ECOLOGICALLY SOUND FEDERAL RULES TO SAFEGUARD MATURE AND OLD-GROWTH FORESTS IN THE WAKE OF PRESIDENT BIDEN'S EXECUTIVE ORDER 14072. WE ALSO GENERATED CALLS AND LETTERS TO FEDERAL OFFICIALS URGING STRENGTHENING OF THE DRAFT RULES AFTER THEY WERE UNVEILED. WE CALLED FOR CITIZEN COMMUNICATIONS IN OPPOSITION TO THE SO-CALLED "SAVE OUR SEQUOIAS ACT" (H.R. 8168), WHICH WOULD HAVE WEAKENED FOREST-PROTECTION LAWS. ORGANIZED CALLS TO THE NAPA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS URGING THEM TO USE THE COUNTY'S CLIMATE-PROTECTIVE POLICIES AND INSTRUMENTS TO PREVENT DESTRUCTION OF OAK WOODLANDS AND WATERSHEDS.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

WE HELPED PUT CALFIRE ON NOTICE THAT A BROAD SEGMENT OF THE PUBLIC WANTS THAT AGENCY TO PREPARE A REVISED MANAGEMENT PLAN REFLECTING MEANINGFUL CO-MANAGEMENT OF JACKSON DEMONSTRATION STATE FOREST WITH THE TRIBES FOR WHICH THE AREA IS CULTURALLY CENTRAL, TO ACCOMPANY THIS REVISED PLAN WITH AN ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT, AND TO HALT ALL LOGGING AT JACKSON UNTIL THESE OBJECTIVES ARE ATTAINED. WE GENERATED COMMUNICATIONS TO FEDERAL OFFICIALS IN SUPPORT OF STRENGTHENED FEDERAL RULES TO PROTECT MATURE AND OLD-GROWTH FORESTS; WE BELIEVE THIS HELPED TO RESULT IN STRONGER DRAFT RULES THAN WOULD OTHERWISE HAVE BEEN PROMULGATED. WE HELPED TO SIDELINE FEDERAL H.R. 8168, WHICH WOULD HAVE DAMAGED ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS IN THE NAME OF SAVING GIANT SEQUOIAS. THE BILL DID NOT PASS.
