THE PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO PROVIDE ATTORNEYS FOR PUBLIC PENSION PLANS WITH A MEDIUM TO EXCHANGE INFORMATION, ADVANCE KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION, AND FOSTER SOUND PRINCIPLES, PROCEDURES AND PRACTICES IN THE FIELD OF PUBLIC PENSION PLANS.

THE ORGANIZATION PRODUCES AND CONDUCTS AN ANNUAL EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE ITS MEMBERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO MEET OTHERS WORKING IN THE SAME PRACTICE AREA AND TO EXCHANGE IDEAS AND EXPERIENCES REGARDING COMMON LEGAL ISSUES. THE ORGANIZATION OFFERS CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION CREDITS TO MEMBERS WHO ATTEND THE CONFERENCE. CREDIT HOURS GENERALLY RUN FROM 15 TO 18 INCLUDING TWO HOURS OF ETHICS. THE 2021 LEGAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE WAS CANCELLED DUE TO THE RESTRICTIONS PLACED ON IN-PERSON GATHERINGS.
IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF THE YEAR, THE ORGANIZATION HOSTS A WINTER SEMINAR MEETING. THE MEETING INCLUDES A HALF-DAY LEGAL WORKSHOP FOR EACH OF THE FOUR STANDING SECTION STEERING COMMITTEES (BENEFITS, FIDUCIARY & PLAN GOVERNANCE, INVESTMENTS, AND TAX). THESE HALF-DAY SESSIONS ALLOW THE MEMBERS TO PARTICIPATE IN MORE EXTENSIVE DISCUSSIONS ON SPECIALIZED AREAS OF PENSION LAW. THIS YEAR'S WINTER SEMINAR INCLUDED 98 PAID REGISTRATIONS.
THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES A WEBSITE FOR THE BENEFIT AND USE OF ITS MEMBERS. THIS SITE IS AN EFFICIENT WAY TO DISSEMINATE INFORMATION TO THE MEMBERSHIP AND PROVIDES NETWORKING TOOLS TO KEEP THE MEMBERSHIP CONNECTED AND ENGAGED.THE ORGANIZATION PRODUCES A NEWSLETTER CONSISTING OF ARTICLES WRITTEN BY THE MEMBERSHIP AND IS DISTRIBUTED ELECTRONICALLY TWO TIMES A YEAR.
