BIRMINGHAM HISTORICAL SOCIETY'S MISSION IS TO CELEBRATE BIRMINGHAM'S HISTORY THROUGH RESEARCH, PUBLISHING, AND EDUCATION.

Part 3 - Line 4a

PROGRAM SERVICES INCLUDE EDUCATION ABOUT THE HISTORY AND HERITAGE OF OUR COMMUNITY. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH MULTIPLE VENUES INCLUDING FORMAL LECTURES DELIVERED AT THE ANNUAL MEETING AND OFTEN ACCOMPANIED BY THE RELEASE OF PUBLICATIONS, NEWSLETTERS, AND WEBSITE AND FACEBOOK POSTS ON DIVERSE TOPICS PUBLISHED AS INTEREST ARISES; VISITS TO EXPLORE HISTORIC HOMES ACCOMPANIED BY A PUBLISHED HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY AND ITS RECENT PRESERVATION; AND TALKS IN THE SOCIETY'S OFFICES AND IN THE DEMONSTRATION GARDEN THE SOCIETY MAINTAINS AT THE SLOSS FURNACES NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK.


2021 PUBLICATION, THE CITY BEAUTIFUL, COMPLIMENTS OF G. WARD. THIS BOOK, PUBLISHED AND PROMOTED IN 2021, TELLS THE STORY OF MAYOR GEORGE WARD'S LIFE-LONG CAMPAIGN TO IMPROVE SANITARY CONDITIONS, ACQUIRE LAND FOR PARKS AND RECREATION, AND LED MANY OTHER CIVIC CAMPAIGNS TO IMPROVE BIRMINGHAM AS A LIVABLE URBAN ENVIRONMENT.
