BIRMINGHAM SISTER CITIES IS DEDICATED TO CULTIVATING PROMOTING GLOBAL COOPERATION, CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING FACILITATING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BETWEEN THE BIRMINGHAM METRO COMMUNITY AND SELECTED CITIES AROUND THE WORLD.

IN 2017, BIRMINGHAM SISTER CITIES EXPANDED ITS GHANA PARTNERSHIP TO INCLUDE APAASO. AFTER MEETING WITH THE QUEEN MOTHER, THE CHIEFS OF THE AREA, AND THE COMMUNITY, ACCESS TO EDUCATION WAS A PRIORITY. BIRMINGHAM SISTER CITIES COMMITTED TO BUILDING A NEW BUILDING TO SERVE AS THE COMMUNITYS LIBRARY AND TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNITY CENTER. ALTHOUGH THE SCHOOL DOES NOT HAVE RUNNING WATER AND ELECTRICITY, THE NEW BUILDING WILL HAVE THESE UTILITIES. BIRMINGHAM SISTER CITIES COMMITMENT INCLUDES CONSTRUCTION, FURNITURE, BOOKS, AND COMPUTERS. EACH YEAR, THE ORGANIZATION HOSTS THE DRUMS OF APAASO GALA TO RAISE FUNDS TO BUILD A SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY LIBRARY IN APAASO, GHANA.


IN 2020, BIRMINGHAM SISTER CITIES SENT QUARTERLY SHIPMENTS OF VITAL MEDICAL AID TO THE DONBAS REGION OF UKRAINE. COLLABORATING WITH LOCAL DOCTORS OFFICES AND UAB, BIRMINGHAM SISTER CITIES SENT POUNDS OF MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO FIRST RESPONDERS IN DONBAS IN 2020. ADDITIONALLY, BIRMINGHAM SISTER CITIES DONATED TO BIRMINGHAMS SECOND ANNUAL UKRAINIAN HOLIDAY FESTIVAL. LASTLY, OPEN WORLDS YOUNG LEADERS FROM UKRAINE VISITED BIRMINGHAM TO LEARN ABOUT MEDIA LITERACY


VARIOUS ACTIVITIES OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IS IN DIRECT SUPPORT OF THE ORGANIZATION MISSION AND NOT JUST MANAGEMENT SUPPORT AS WELL AS MANY TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS AND TRAVEL FOR CONFERENCES
