Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
METHODIST MEDICAL CENTER ("METHODIST") FIRST OPENED AS AN ARMY HOSPITAL IN 1943. NOW, MORE THAN 75 YEARS LATER, THE HOSPITAL IS AN ADVANCED PRIMARY STROKE CENTER AND PROVIDES MEDICAL SPECIALTIES RANGING FROM CARDIOLOGY AND ORTHOPEDICS TO ONCOLOGY AND WOUND CARE. THE MEDICAL CENTER IS A 301-BED FACILITY WHICH EMPLOYS APPROXIMATELY 1,000 PEOPLE AND SERVES MORE THAN 200,000 CITIZENS IN ANDERSON, ROANE, MORGAN, CAMPBELL AND SCOTT COUNTIES. SERVICETHE HOSPITAL IS BEST KNOWN FOR ITS SERVICES IN ORTHOPEDICS, CARDIOLOGY, ONCOLOGY, REHABILITATION THERAPY SERVICES, SLEEP DIAGNOSTICS AND WOUND TREATMENT. METHODIST MEDICAL CENTER'S BOARD-CERTIFIED ORTHOPEDIC SURGEONS ARE SKILLED IN DIAGNOSING AND TREATING BONE, MUSCLE, AND JOINT DISORDERS. THE HOSPITAL IS A BLUE DISTINCTION CENTER+ FOR KNEE AND HIP REPLACEMENT, A PROGRAM OFFERED BY THE BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD ASSOCIATION THAT RECOGNIZES THE HIGHEST QUALITY PROVIDERS AND DOCTORS.METHODIST OFFERS A FULL CONTINUUM OF HEART-RELATED CARE AND SERVICES, INCLUDING OPEN-HEART SURGERY. IN FEBRUARY 2021, THE MEDICAL CENTER'S OPEN HEART PROGRAM CELEBRATED ITS 8,000TH PATIENT. MID-YEAR, METHODIST INTRODUCED THE INNOVATIVE VIRTUAL HEALTH INITIATIVE THAT OFFERS A FULL COMPLEMENT OF TELEHEALTH SERVICES ("TELE-ICU") FOR PATIENTS IN OUR INTENSIVE CARE UNITS. THE CARDIAC AND PULMONARY REHABILITATION PROGRAM IS ACCREDITED BY THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF CARDIOVASCULAR AND PULMONARY REHABILITATION AND OFFERS AN INDIVIDUALIZED PLAN OF MONITORED EXERCISE AND EDUCATION IN A MEDICALLY SUPERVISED ENVIRONMENT. METHODIST SERVED 153,686 PATIENTS IN 2021. OF THESE, 144,983 WERE OUTPATIENTS AND 8,703 WERE INPATIENTS WITH AN AVERAGE LENGTH-OF-STAY OF 5.07 DAYS. PUTTING PATIENTS FIRSTMETHODIST IS DESIGNATED AS AN ADVANCED PRIMARY STROKE CENTER BY THE JOINT COMMISSION AND IS RECOGNIZED BY THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION/AMERICAN STROKE ASSOCIATION FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN HIGH QUALITY SYSTEMS PERFORMANCE BY MEETING OR EXCEEDING GUIDELINE THERAPY RECOMMENDATIONS. METHODIST EARNED THE MISSION: LIFELINE GOLD PLUS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR STEMI RECEIVING CENTER AND A GOLD AWARD FOR NSTEMI. ADDITIONALLY, IT HAS BEEN HONORED BY GET WITH THE GUIDELINES FOR STROKE GOLD PLUS AWARD WHICH RECOGNIZES PERFORMANCE OF 24 CONSECUTIVE MONTHS OR MORE, TARGET: STROKE HONOR ROLL-ELITE PLUS, AND TARGET: STROKE TYPE 2 DIABETES HONOR ROLL. THE HOSPITAL IS A MEMBER OF COVENANT HEALTH'S STROKE HOSPITAL NETWORK, WHICH LINKS COVENANT HEALTH'S MEMBER HOSPITALS IN PROVIDING THE REGION WITH ACCESS TO RAPID DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF STROKE. METHODIST'S WOUND TREATMENT CENTER TEAM OF PHYSICIAN SPECIALISTS AND NURSES HELP PATIENTS WITH CONDITIONS SUCH AS DIABETIC WOUNDS, VENOUS STASIS ULCERS AND RADIATION WOUNDS. HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY (HBOT) IS ONE OF SEVERAL ADVANCED TREATMENT OPTIONS AVAILABLE AT THE CENTER. HBOT STIMULATES THE FORMATION OF NEW BLOOD VESSELS, IMPROVES FLOW OF OXYGEN TO TISSUES AND INCREASES FORMATION OF FIBROUS TISSUES, HELPING PATIENTS RECOVER FROM NON-HEALING WOUNDS. METHODIST'S FAMILY BIRTHING CENTER IS A 19-BED UNIT WITH FOUR ADDITIONAL TRIAGE ROOMS. THE CENTER'S BIRTHING SUITES FEATURE THE COMFORTS OF HOME, BUT BENEATH THE WELCOMING APPEARANCE, THE SUITES ARE HIGH-TECH DELIVERY ROOMS WITH STATE-OF-THE-ART MONITORING AND LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS. THE HOSPITAL AVERAGES ABOUT 400 BIRTHS EACH YEAR.METHODIST OPERATES THREE HOSPITALITY HOUSES WHICH PROVIDE FREE TEMPORARY LODGING TO CANCER PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES WHO MUST TRAVEL TO OAK RIDGE FOR EXTENDED TREATMENT. THE HOUSES ALSO ARE AVAILABLE TO OTHER PATIENTS NEEDING LONG-TERM TREATMENT AS SPACE ALLOWS. THROUGHOUT THE PANDEMIC, METHODIST'S HOSPITALITY HOUSES HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REMAIN OPEN TO PROVIDE 2,000 NIGHTS OF STAY TO GUESTS FROM 20 TENNESSEE COUNTIES AND 15 STATES FROM ALABAMA TO WYOMING.IMPROVING THE COMMUNITY'S QUALITY OF LIFE THROUGH BETTER HEALTHMETHODIST OFFERS A VARIETY OF CLASSES, SUPPORT GROUPS AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS FOR THE COMMUNITY, INCLUDING CHILDBIRTH CLASSES, EXERCISE CLASSES, SMOKING CESSATION, AND CANCER SUPPORT CLASSES. MANY OF THESE CLASSES WERE PROVIDED ON A VIRTUAL PLATFORM DURING THE PANDEMIC. METHODIST WAS RECOGNIZED AS AN OAK RIDGE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD HONOREE. THIS AWARD IS AWARDED TO A BUSINESS THAT NOT ONLY OPERATES IN A SOUND MANNER, BUT ALSO IS MAKING A PROFOUND IMPACT ON THE GREATER OAK RIDGE COMMUNITY.BY WORKING TOGETHER WITH LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES, METHODIST IS PROVIDING EXPANDED OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE ABOUT THE EXCITING FIELD OF MEDICINE. THE HEALTH SCIENCES ACADEMY AT OAK RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL IS A MULTI-PATH PROGRAM THAT PREPARES STUDENTS TO MOVE SEAMLESSLY INTO POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION OR THE HEALTH CARE WORK FORCE. AS A CORE SITE FOR CLINICAL ROTATIONS WITH LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY, MEDICAL STUDENTS ARE GAINING PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE AS THEY WORK SIDE BY SIDE WITH METHODIST PHYSICIANS AS THEY APPLY CLASSROOM KNOWLEDGE TO REAL-WORLD MEDICAL SITUATIONS.COVENANT HEALTH METHODIST MEDICAL CENTER IS A MEMBER OF COVENANT HEALTH.
