FOUNDED IN 2010, THE BAY BRIDGE ALLIANCE FIRST ASSISTED PUBLIC AGENCIES WITH PLANNING AND FUNDRAISING FOR A REGIONAL EVENT TO CELEBRATE THE OPENING OF THE NEW EASTERN SPAN OF THE BAY BRIDGE IN 2013. AFTER THE BRIDGE'S OPENING AND A CHANGE IN THE BBA'S LEADERSHIP, BBA REMAINED COMMITTED TO PROVIDING PUBLIC ACCESS TO AND ACTIVATING THE SITE OF THE OAKLAND TOUCHDOWN OF THE BAY BRIDGE, A KEY ACCESS POINT TO BOTH THE BAY BRIDGE'S BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN PATH AND TO GATEWAY PARK, THE NEW WATERFRONT PUBLIC SPACE BEING DEVELOPED AT THE OAKLAND TOUCHDOWN OF THE NEW BAY BRIDGE. CURRENTLY, THE BBA'S FOCUS IS DEVELOPING A TEMPORARY POP-UP PARK PROPOSED FOR THE LOCATION IMMEDIATELY SURROUNDING THE EXISTING IERBYS ("SAWTOOTH") BUILDING AND BRIDGE YARD TERRACE AT THE OAKLAND TOUCHDOWN SITE. THE LOCATION IS A TRAILHEAD FOR THE BAY BRIDGE BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN TRAIL AS WELL AS THE SYMBOLIC ARRIVAL TO THE FUTURE GATEWAY PARK. THE POP-UP PARK WILL BOTH SERVE AS A DRAW AND A SIGNAL TO THE PUBLIC THAT EXCITING CHANGES ARE COMING TO THIS PUBLIC SPACE. THE EXISTING BIKE PATH CONNECTING IKEA TO THE BRIDGE WILL ONLY GROW IN USERS AND IMPORTANCE AS A NUMBER OF PROPOSED PROJECTS CONNECT THE EXISTING PATH EAST TO OAKLAND AND WEST TO YERBA BUENA ISLAND ("YBI"), AND EVENTUALLY WEST TO SAN FRANCISCO, COME TO FRUITION.
