THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF ATHENS, INC IS AN ORGANIZATION OF WOMEN COMMITTED TO PROMOTING VOLUNTEERISM, DEVELOPING THE POTENTIAL OF WOMEN AND IMPROVING COMMUNITIES THROUGH THE EFFECTIVE ACTION AND LEADERSHIP OF TRAINED VOLUNTEERS. THE PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION IS EXCLUSIVELY EDUCATIONAL AND CHARITABLE. THE JLA WELCOMES ALL WOMEN WHO VALUE OUR MISSION. WE ARE COMMITTED TO INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENTS OR DIVERSE INDIVIDUALS, ORGANIZATIONS AND COMMUNITIES. VISION: WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD AS CATALYSTS FOR LASTING COMMUNITY CHANGE. THE JUNIOR LEAGUE'S FOCUS IS LITERACY.

THE JUNIOR LEAGUE'S ACTIVE, PROVISIONAL AND SUSTAINING MEMBERS PROVIDE FUNDING AND VOLUNTEER SERVICE HOURS TO THE COMMUNITY. SOME OF THIS YEAR'S SPECIFIC PROJECTS INCLUDED STEWARDSHIP OF THE TAYLOR-GRADY HOUSE, VARIOUS DONATION DRIVES FOR SIGNATURE FOCUS PARTNERS, PARTICIPATION IN ASSOCIATION OF JUNIOR LEAGUES INTERNATIONAL INC'S LITTLE BLACK DRESS INTIATIVE TO RAISE AWARENESS OF POVERTY ISSUES, AS WELL AS RAISING FUNDS FOR NUMEROUS MINI-GRANTS TO OTHER COMMUNITY NONPROFITS IN THE ATHENS AREA.


JUNIOR LEAGUE OF ATHENS OPERATES THE TAYLOR-GRADY HOUSE, BOYHOOD HOME TO HENRY GRADY, NEWSPAPER EDITOR AND LEADING VOICE FOR REINTEGRATION OF NORTH AND SOUTH AFTER THE CIVIL WAR. OWNED BY ATHENS-CLARKE COUNTY, THE CIRCA 1845 HOME IS A NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK, THE HIGHEST LANDMARK DESIGNATION BESTOWED WITHIN ATHENS. THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OPENS THE HOUSE FOR PUBLIC TOURS AND FIELD TRIPS DAILY, AS WELL AS PRIVATE EVENTS INCLUDING WEDDINGS, PARTIES AND RECEPTIONS.
