Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

SINCE 1995, MAGIC CITY HARVEST HAS BEEN RECOVERING FOOD TO ALLEVIATE FOOD INSECURITY AND FOOD WASTE IN JEFFERSON, SHELBY, AND TALLADEGA COUNTIES. SINCE THEN, OVER 15,000,000 POUNDS OF FOOD HAVE BEEN PICKED UP AND REDISTRIBUTED. IT IS DIFFICULT TO DEFINE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SERVED ON AN ANNUAL BASIS, BUT SOME OF THE AGENCIES AND SHELTERS THAT MAGIC CITY HARVEST DELIVERS FOOD TO FEED 20-40 PEOPLE PER DAY AND OTHERS FEED 120-150 PEOPLE PER DAY DEPENDING ON THE TIME OF YEAR AND WEATHER CONDITIONS. ALTHOUGH THE FOCUS IS PRIMARILY ON RECOVERY OF DONATED PERISHABLE FOOD, MAGIC CITY HARVEST IS COMMITTED TO AND INVOLVED IN MULTIPLE COLLABORATIVE INITIATIVES WHICH ARE ADDRESSING THE CHALLENGES AND BARRIERS TO PEOPLE IN THE AREA ACCESSING SUFFICIENT, NUTRITIOUS FOOD.
