MACON COUNTY CARE NETWORK HAS 2 MAIN PROGRAMS IN 2021 THAT PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD FOR THE RESIDENTS OF MACON COUNTY: THE BACKPACK PROGRAM, AND THE FOOD PANTRY ARE VITAL PROGRAMS THAT SERVE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES WHO ARE FOOD INSECURE. THE BACKPACK PROGRAM: THE BACKPACK PROGRAM IS A FOOD RESOURCE FOR CHILDREN IDENTIFIED AS "FOOD INSECURE" FOR OVER THE WEEKEND WHEN THEY MIGHT NOT GET A MEAL. THE PROGRAM DISTRIBUTED 16,555 BACKPACKS OF FOOD TO CHILDREN IN OUR COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM DURING THE CALENDAR YEAR OF 2021.


THE FOOD PANTRY: THE FOOD PANTRY IS A SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD RESOURCE FOR LOW-INCOME FAMILIES AND THE HOMELESS. QUALIFIED INDIVIDUALS ARE ABLE TO SHOP IN THE FOOD PANTRY TO HELP SUPPLEMENT THEIR NUTRITIONAL NEEDS. DURING THE CALENDAR YEAR OF 2021 THE FOOD PANTRY DISTRIBUTED 527,995 POUNDS OF FOOD TO 5,967 HOUSHOLDS-IN-NEED IN MACON COUNTY.
