FOUNDED IN 1974 THE SUN IS ONE OF NORTH CAROLINA'S OLDEST AND MOST WIDELY READ LITERARY MAGAZINES. MORE THAN 60,000 SUBSCRIBERS ENJOY OUR INTERVIEWS PERSONAL ESSAYS FICTION POETRY AND PHOTOGRAPHY EACH MONTH AND AN ADDITIONAL 20,000 MAGAZINES ARE DISTRIBUTED TO NEWSSTANDS IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA. THE SUN IS READER-SUPPORTED AND FREE OF ADVERTISING. FOR FORTY-FOUR YEARS THE SUN HAS PUBLISHED BRAVE REVEALING WORK THAT LIVES UP TO THE MAGAZINE'S MOTTO A QUOTE FROM HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR VIKTOR FRANKL: "WHAT IS TO GIVE LIGHT MUST ENDURE BURNING."
