THE HUBERT M. SMITH AMERICAN LEGION POST 77, DEPARTMENT OF NORTH CAROLINA WAS CHARTERED IN JUNE 1922. WITH NOW OVER SEVEN HUNDRED MEMBERS ENGAGED IN THE GOOD WORK ADVANCING THE FOUR PILLARS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION; VETERANS AFFAIRS AND REHABILITATION, NATIONAL SECURITY, AMERICANISM, ALONG WITH CHILDREN AND YOUTH PROGRAMS.

ANNUAL HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE. PURCHASED AND DISTRIBUTED FOOD TO ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-EIGHT FAMILIES IN NEED. PERFORMED FOUR FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONIES, RETIRED 1200 FLAGS. DONATED THREE POWER WHEELCHAIRS, 2 WHEELCHAIRS, 4 CASKET FLAGS & 8 3X5 FLAGS TO LOCAL VETERANS IN NEED.


SPONSOR HENDERSON COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA HONOR GUARDS. PARTICIPATED IN TWENTY-FOUR BURIALS AND TWO HUNDRED NINETY-TWO COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS. PUBLIC SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS BY THE POST COMMANDER AND POST ADJUTANT TOTALING SEVEN HOURS. VETERAN SERVICE OFFICER FIFTY HOURS WORKING WITH VETERANS FILING SERVICE CONNECTED CLAIMS. HIGH SCHOOL JR. ROTC PROGRAMS THREE HUNDRED AND TEN HOURS. PROVIDED VOLUNTEER MAN HOURS TOTALING SIX HUNDRED HOURS TO LOCAL VETERAN ORGANIZATIONS (VETS FARM AND VETERAN'S HEALING FARM).
