THE MISSION OF NEW RIVER HEALTH IS TO PROMOTE THE HEALTH, HUMAN AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, AND WELL-BEING OF INDIVIDUALS AND OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH CARING AND COMPETENT HEALTH SERVICES, EDUCATION, CREATIVITY, AND TEAMWORK.

HEALTH CARE SERVICES, INCLUDING MEDICAL, LAB, X-RAY, BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, AND DENTAL ARE PROVIDED REGARDLESS OF ABILITY TO PAY. THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 20,573 PATIENTS SERVED. UNINSURED PATIENTS ARE CHARGED ON A SLIDING FEE BASIS BASED ON HOUSEHOLD INCOME. IN THIS FISCAL YEAR CHARGES OF $1,013,091 WERE SLIDING FEE ADJUSTMENTS WRITTEN OFF AS CHARITY CARE.


BLACK LUNG CLINIC PROVIDING HEALTH CARE GEARED TOWARD BREATHING PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY FOR ACTIVE AND RETIRED COAL MINERS. THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 321 SERVED. THIS NUMBER IS ONE THIRD OF THE NUMBER SERVED IN THE PRIOR YEAR DUE TO COVID 19.


THE NEW RIVER MIHOW PROGRAM SERVES PREGNANT WOMEN AND CHILDREN TO THE AGE OF FIVE YEARS PROVIDING: SUPPORT FOR HEALTHY LIFESTYLES, RESOURCE REFERRAL, PRENATAL AND POSTNATAL EDUCATION, DEPRESSION AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SCREENINGS, CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND PARENT INTERACTION SCREENINGS, AND SCHOOL READINESS ACTIVITIES. YEARS OF RESEARCH HAVE SHOWN POSITIVE OUTCOMES ADDRESSING A VARIETY OF HEALTH RELATED OUTCOMES AND FAMILY WELL-BEING FOR FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN. PRESCHOOL HOME VISITING PROGRAMS REPRESENT AN IMPORTANT EVIDENCE-BASED TOOL TO SUPPORT CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES AT A CRITICAL DEVELOPMENT PERIOD. MIHOW WAS DEVELOPED BY VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY AND LOCAL COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS IN 1982. NEW RIVER MIHOW HAS SERVED FAMILIES SINCE 1984 AND HAS DEVELOPED STRONG COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS AS THE PROGRAM PARTNERS WITH FAMILIES SO CHILDREN GROW UP HEALTHY, STRONG, AND READY TO LEARN.
