INITIATES AND FOSTERS PROGRAMS AIMED AT SERVING THE NEEDS OF THE PUBLIC, PARTICULARLY THE LESS FORTUNATE AND UNDERSERVED. PROGRAMS ARE FOCUSED ON THE EMERGENT SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC NEEDS OF INDIVIDUALS IN THE WASHINGTON, DC METROPOLITAN AREA.

DAPCDC'S PERCY JULIAN INSTITUTE - STEM PROGRAM IN FY 2022, THE DANIEL A. PAYNE CDC'S PERCY JULIAN INSTITUTE (PJI) CONTINUED TO PROVIDE HANDS-ON, OUT OF SCHOOL STEM ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS IN ITS GIRLS WHO CODE CLUB DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. THE PROGRAM WAS CONDUCTED VIRTUALLY DURING THE SPRING SEMESTER (APRIL 9-MAY 28, 2022) AND FALL SEMESTER (SEPTEMBER 2022-NOVEMBER 2022). WE HAVE NOT YET STARTED OUR STEM FIELD TRIP AND ROBOTICS PROGRAM.


DAPCDC FINANCIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS ON JUNE 4, 2022, THE DAPCDC PRESENTED ITS ANNUAL COMMUNITY FINANCIAL PLANNING DAY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL CAPITAL CHAPTER OF THE SOCIETY OF FINANCIAL SERVICE PROFESSIONALS (SFSP) HTTP://WWW.FINANCIALPRO.ORG/ (SFSP). THESE PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO HELP ATTENDEES TO IMPROVE THEIR FINANCIAL LITERACY AND EMPOWER THEMSELVES FINANCIALLY AND TO EMPOWER THEIR COMMUNITY. ATTENDEES HAD INTERACTIVE CONVERSATIONS WITH FINANCIAL PLANNING EXPERTS ON ISSUES CONCERNING BUDGETING/SAVING, HOMEOWNERSHIP, RETIREMENT, INSURANCE PROTECTION AND MORE.


AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT BASED ON OUR ARCHITECT'S DRAWINGS OF A PROPOSED RESIDENTIAL TOWER CONTAINING 25 ONE-BEDROOM RENTAL UNITS, THE DAPCDC CONDUCTED VARIOUS PRE- DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES IN FY 2022 TO DETERMINE PROJECT FEASIBILITY. THE PROJECT WOULD BE DEVELOPED ON LAND OWNED BY METROPOLITAN AME CHURCH. WE RECEIVED SOME GRANT FUNDING WHICH WAS USED TO COVER PRE-DEVELOPMENT COSTS. WE ARE PURSUING ADDITIONAL FUNDING TO COMPLETE THE PRE-DEVELOPMENT PHASE OF THE PROJECT. ONCE PROJECT FEASIBILITY IS DETERMINED, THE NEXT PHASE WOULD BE TO IDENTIFY A DEVELOPMENT PARTNER WHO WOULD FINANCE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION THROUGH COMPLETION.
