THE SENIOR CONNECTION LINKS OLDER ADULTS TO SERVICES AND RESOURCES SO THEY CAN LIVE AS INDEPENDENTLY AS POSSIBLE AND REMAIN INTEGRAL MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY. THIS IS DONE THROUGH VOLUNTEERS HELPING THEM WITH TRANSPORTATION AND GROCERY SHOPPING.

Part 3 - Line 4a
VOLUNTEER ESCORTED DRIVER PROGRAM - VOLUNTEERS USE THEIR OWN VEHICLES AND PAY FOR THEIR OWN GAS. SENIORS ARE TRANSPORTED TO MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS, GROCERY SHOPPING AND OTHER NEEDED SERVICES SUCH AS: PHARMACIES, BANKS, HAIRDRESSERS, ETC. THE LEVEL OF TRANSPORTATION DEPENDS ON THE NEED OF THE INDIVIDUAL BEING SERVED. VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE CURB-TO-CURB, DOOR-TO-DOOR, DOOR THROUGH-THE-DOOR AND ESCORTED SERVICES. OVER 497 MONTGOMERY COUNTY SENIOR RESIDENTS WERE SERVED WITH 6,886 TRIPS AT NO COST TO THE INDIVIDUAL BEING SERVED.
GROCERY SHOPPING SERVICES - VOLUNTEERS EITHER GO TO THE STORE FOR A HOMEBOUND SENIOR OR THEY DRIVE THEM TO THE GROCERY STORE, ASSIST THEM WITH THE SHOPPING AND HELP THEM PUT THE GROCERIES AWAY UPON RETURNING HOME. 209 MONTGOMERY COUNTY SENIOR RESIDENTS WERE SERVED.
