THE FUND'S MISSION IS TO PROMOTE AND SUPPORT THE SPORT OF FIGURE SKATING BY PRESENTING EVENTS SUCH AS COMPETITIONS AND SEMINARS, AWARDING GRANTS TO HELP INDIVIDUALS AND TEAMS ACHIEVE GREATER SUCCESS, AND PROVIDING SUPPORT TO ORGANIZATIONS THAT OFFER SKATING-RELATED SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY.

THE FUND ESTABLISHED THE MICHAEL HUGHES TROPHY TO BE AWARDED TO THE WINNER OF THE US FIGURE SKATING SOUTH ATLANTIC REGIONAL JUVENILE GIRLS COMPETITION IN MEMORY OF A FORMER DIRECTOR. HIS WIFE IS A SKATING COACH AND MR. HUGHES WAS AN ARDENT SUPPORTER OF COMPETITORS FROM THE WASHINGTON, DC METROPOLITAN AREA. MR. HUGHES WAS VICE PRESIDENT OF THE CAPITOL SKATING FUND PRIOR TO HIS DEATH.
WEBSITE MAINTENANCE FEE FOR THE FUND'S WEB SITE, WHICH PROVIDES PUBLIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE FUND AND ACCEPTS APPLICATIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS SEEKING GRANT SUPPORT FROM THE FUND.
