THE LEGACY AWARDS RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE BEST IN BLACK LITERATURE THROUGH AN ANNUAL JURIED COMPETITION. INDEPENDENT JUDGES VOTE ON SUBMISSION IN THE CATEGORIES OF FICTION, NONFICTION AND POETRY. THE FOUNDATION ALSO HOSTS TWO COMPETITIONS FOR UNPUBLISHED WRITERS, THE COLLEGE AWARDS FOR FICTION AND POETRY AND CROSSOVER AWARD FOR NONFICTION.


THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES MULTIPLE WORKSHOPS TO SERVE EMERGING AND MID-CAREER WRITERS WORKING IN THE GENRES OF NONFICTION, FICTION AND POETRY. PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE INTENSIVE, PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTION. PUBLIC READINGS WERE HELD VIRTUALLY TO CONNECT READERS TO A SELECT
