AMERICA'S LARGEST CIVIL RIGHTS ORGANIZATION WORKING TO ACHIEVE LGBTQ+ EQUALITY.

FEDERAL, FIELD AND LEGAL ADVOCACY: AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL, HRC ADVOCATES FOR POLICIES, REGULATORY CHANGES AND LEGISLATION THAT GUARANTEE THE LEGAL EQUALITY OF LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER AND QUEER (LGBTQ+) PEOPLE. IN 2020, HRC ENGAGED THE HILL ON IMPACTFUL LEGISLATION RELATED TO COVID-19, ACCESS TO VOTING, TRANSFORMATIONAL CHANGE IN POLICING, AND OTHER MATTERS OF IMPORTANCE TO THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY. ADDITIONALLY, HRC TOOK STEPS TO AFFECT THE ACTUAL IMPLEMENTATION OF BOSTOCK V. CLAYTON COUNTY, THE CASE IN WHICH THE SUPREME COURT HELD THAT TITLE VII OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 1964 PROTECTS GAY AND TRANSGENDER EMPLOYEES AGAINST DISCRIMINATION, BEGINNING WITH A LETTER OUTLINING THE OBLIGATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE. HRC ALSO ADVOCATES FOR FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL LAWS TO PROHIBIT ANTI-LGBTQ+ DISCRIMINATION, PROTECT LGBTQ+ YOUTH FROM BULLYING AND CONVERSION THERAPY, AND MAINTAIN OR INCREASE FUNDING FOR HIV PREVENTION, TREATMENT, AND CARE.HRC HAS SUSTAINED ON-THE-GROUND EFFORTS TO MOBILIZE THE PUBLIC IN STATES INCLUDING ARIZONA, GEORGIA, MICHIGAN, PENNSYLVANIA AND WISCONSIN. THROUGH THIS MULTI-YEAR INITIATIVE HRC STAFF RECRUITED MORE THAN 6,000 INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS WHO COMPLETED 32,600 HOURS OF VOTER CONTACT IN MORE THAN 2,650 VOLUNTEER EVENTS. IN NOVEMBER, HRC RELEASED ITS BLUEPRINT FOR POSITIVE CHANGE 2020, WHICH PROVIDES A CRITICAL ROADMAP OF MORE THAN 85 INDIVIDUAL POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS THAT SHOULD BE A PRIORITY FOR THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION.HRC ENGAGED MEMBERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY EDUCATING THEM ABOUT CANDIDATES RECORDS AND CULMINATING IN THE ELECTION OF A PRO-EQUALITY PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS.


MEMBERSHIP EDUCATION AND MOBILIZATION: HRC HAS GROWN TO MORE THAN 3,000,000 MEMBERS AND SUPPORTERS. MEMBERSHIP EDUCATION AND MOBILIZATION CONSISTS OF INFORMING MEMBERS ABOUT LEGISLATIVE ISSUES AS WELL AS CURRENT EVENTS AND OTHER ISSUES THAT IMPACT THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY UTILIZING CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIAL MEDIA. HRC'S FOLLOWERS ON FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM CONTINUE TO SURGE NOW TOTALING OVER 2,500,000 AND 750,000 RESPECTIVELY. HRC OPERATES ACTION CENTERS IN PROVINCETOWN, MA AND SAN FRANCISCO, CA.


COMMUNICATIONS & MEDIA ADVOCACY: HRC WORKS TO BUILD UNDERSTANDING AND AWARENESS OF THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY BY TELLING OUR STORIES TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC THROUGH THE MAINSTREAM PRESS. HRC ALSO MAINTAINS A PRESENCE IN THE LGBTQ+ MEDIA TO HELP EDUCATE, INFORM, AND ENGAGE OUR COMMUNITY. HRC WORKS TO SHARE OUR STORIES THROUGH OUR WEBSITE WWW.HRC.ORG, OUR PUBLICATIONS, INCLUDING EQUALITY MAGAZINE, AND A VARIETY OF ONLINE OUTLETS.
